Perch, bluegills and walleyes still biting

Steelhead in Lake Michigan tributaries usually command the attention of open-water anglers this time of year. But not in 2007, when unusually mild air and water temperatures have meant good open-water fishing for perch, bluegills and walleyes.

"The big problem is that most people have already put the boat away for the winter," said Dick Washington of Detroit, who has been catching good numbers of perch while fishing from shore at Lake Erie Metropark in Brownstown Township.
