I was up at the cabin for most of last week up until New years day doing some ice fishing. I could't get out to my regular spot because it was still open water but we did manage to do pretty well in the bays. There was a solid 3-4 inches of ice in the bays. We caught a bunch of largemouth bass, biggest being 16.5", bunch of small pike with three big ones 28,29 and 31 inchers, and 4 keeper walleyes with the biggest being 23". Overall it was a pretty good week and it was great getting out on the ice for the first time this season:) :fish:
Here are some pics:
My 23" 5lb walleye(my biggest yet)

My buddy lost the spud thru the ice so he used the aqua vu and a heavy pike rod to get it back lol

This is the 1st sentence in Fish21's post. You armchair CO's crack me up. You think you're so smart. Bass season closed on 1-1-07. Try reading your reg's before you put your feet in your mouths.
Congrats on the fish guys. I cant wait for the lakes to freeze up here in the lower. I need some gills.

Just to clarify the last day we kept any bass was on Saturday(December 30th). I wasn't sure if Sunday (31st) was the first day of closed season or last day of open season so I didn't take the chance.
MrBluegill you can call JR's sport shop at (906)586-6040 for an ice report. You can get all your bait from there as well. And our pics are there on the counter if you wanna take a look;) Good luck.

Yeah it is kind of a long drive 5.5 hrs for us but it was well worth it. This trip should hold me for a couple of weeks, after that Im gonna need to go ice fishing again!

We did move around a little, but no big moves. We were in wolfe bay in 8-9 ft of water most of the time.

hey, I have a trip planed the 9th-11th its supposed to be up there but we might go to black lake not really sure yet i guess. I would rather go up to South Manistiuqe but i guess we will see.
but ya i already have it all mapped out.. Im going to my grandmas pond 1st, then to my buddys big gravel pit then to a bigger gravel pit down the road haha... they keep getting bigger and bigger and finaly i should be on a lake by the 9th... and my supervisor just told me she is cutting down my hours so looks like i will be making trips to lake cadillac and mitchel more this year too... then ill probably get even more addicted and quit my job haha.

Fished south manistique saturday evening and managed two 18 inch walleye. fished straight out from curtis in 12 FOW. lots of action out there ..most fish coming on tip ups....ice varied from 4 to 6 inches.......ice can only get better with the cold temps that are coming
