Had to find something to do waiting for the water to harden up. Decided
to make a sled to haul fishing gear, spearing shanty, and wood to heat
the house. Not all at one time of course!:)
Bought some old downhill skis at thrift store and added some 1/8" plate steel
and some 1 1/4" slotted angle. Now im kicking ideas around for the deck
& sidewalls. Sidewalls need to be removeable so i have a flat surface to hall
my pre-fab sections of my shanty.

the spacing of the skis is same as skis on my '72 ski doo.

Nice looking sled! :)
Expanded Metal/Steel would make a great deck. I'd suggest welding in some cross supports. For the sides, weld some square stock or round tube to the frame at the corners, at deck height and make some sides outa wood that the can be fitted into those. Kinda like bed rails for a pickup truck.

Wow, now I know 2 people that have a '72 ski doo. Jigawhat has one also! You'll have to get out and race em'!

I believe mine is a '71. 399, Olympique. great machine.
btw, good looking sled! Have you thought about framing the inside of your setup? Then build a flat boad to place large items on top. just a suggestion. Removable side-walls, sounds like it could get difficult, unless you build in some attachments like you see on trailors. good luck!
also, curious to hear what kind type of '72 ski doo you have. TNT?

Good ideas with the expanded metal & receivers welded at the corners.
Maybe make the side panels out of firring strips other light stuff.
I have an elan 250. It still had original cover with it. No tears/holes
in the seat. I took it home, put a new plug & gas in and had her alive
again in 5 mins. It was well taken care of, stored up off the ground
so the track is in good shape.
The only thing i had to fix was the clutch. It didnt engage the belt till
the r.p.m.'s were high and it kinda did a "wheelie". I took the clutch
off and cleaned it up. Put some graphite lubricant on the moving parts
and it kicked in like it was supposed to.
Ski doo made 'em pretty simple and pretty reliable back in those days.
