well guys, I am looking to get my fiance a new rod/reel combo. She never really has done almost any fishing at all but would like to take her out for some walleye from time to time, which would require some casting (as i kinda enjoy that kind of fishing myself). I am thinking a spincast reel, any suggestions? I have a brand new daiwa goldcast (i think thats what its called) GC100... would this be a decent one? Its been so long since i've bought any spincasts or anything like that that I need some direction.

I have several Daiwa spin-cast gold they have really been good reels..thats all my wife will use she can use them all but likes the spin cast...I don't know how many smallmouth, white bass & walleye have been caught on them but it has been a bunch,, I use 6'6" spin-cast rods mine are all shakespeare fiberglass but I am sure there are many different rods out there
My kids have the Abumatics (MH rod) and the Daiwa Golds (ML rod) on Ugly Sticks. Great combos spooled with 20 and 30# Power Pro.

My mom has the abumatic and seems to like it. It casts very well.

I was broke in on the 220 Zebcos. Needless to say that was my first and last spincaster.
If you happen to look at a spinning reel, I would recommend a Shimano Stradic reel in the 2000-2500 size.(or Symetre if cost is a issue) Put in on a nice St. Croix Avid ML Rod and you will have a great jigging rod, get one in the 6'6" length for a more multipurpose Rod.
I bought 5 - I liked the set up so well over the last couple of years.

Steve, there is no rod or reel that you can buy that will suit them. Make sure at the time of the purchase you buy something that will make her (feel she) looks good doing it. COLORS are huge!! If she feels that she is in hollywood holding it, she will respond like a Hilton girl. Once you convince her that fishing is the way, she will find her own combo and let you know.
Back to my cave.

I upgraded my daughter to a Zebco 33 this past spring/summer and she's never been happier! Put it on a 6.5' foot Ugly Stick, she catches more fish than dad!
Take a trip out to see (Ninja) Ken @KD's - I'm sure he could hook you right up! :)
Other than that I know they've got tons of combo's at BPS as well.......

Steve, I forgot to say it to ya, congrats my man.
Whatever rod/reel combo you buy for her make sure that you don't use it. I learned my lesson by doing it one time.

My wife uses the Diawa and realy likes it. I bought her a Abumatic last year and I don't think she's used it 3 times. Compains that it's too big. She started using spinning tackle a few years ago and I had to buy another Stradic so I had something to fish with when she's in the boat.
