Picked up a simple eTrex for when out on the upper Detroit River. Seems easy enough to use to find and record waypoints to use for future reference. Easy electronic unit to use and I will keep on looking through the manual.
But, so far I cannot find any reference to using anything other than Alkaline batteries. Can rechargeable "Ni-Mh" batteries be used?
Near as I can figure based on the what is in the manual I will have to put a new set in about every 16 to 20 hours. That can be every 2 weeks, maybe every week and a half unless the fishing is real good and we limit out in a couple of hours.

On my eTrex legend, you can go to the Main Menu screen -> Setup -> System -> battery and you can choose between:
Alkaline
NiCad
NiMH
Lithium
Good luck

My icefishing GPS is the yellow eTrex.....I recommend the alkaline....I have a ton of rechargeable...they work...but don't last long...I just use them in my remotes around the house now.......You'll like the etrex!! Just remember to always have a extra set of batteries with you no matter what type!! A nice unit for the money....My bigger one I use on soft water is the Garmin 72....Love it...never a problem....I have the cigarette lighter attachment with it so no batteries needed!!

I just got it so I have not done much with it except drive down to Mariner's Park and back.
Pretty much picked it up for those foggy mornings on the river or when fog rolls in while ice fishing. Or, to mark a couple of holes on the inland lakes that I have been ice fishing on.
I do know that the "Ni-Mh" batteries last a lot, lot, lot longer in my Point & Shoot camera. When I was using Alkaline batteries they would only last one weekend and sometimes not even that.

In my opinion the Energizer Lithium batteries are by far the best available on the market. They are not rechargeable and cost more than most any other battery but you will get 3-5 times the life out of them compared to other batteries.

AleX ,
It's usually more cost effective to rig a DC adapter/cig. lrt. cbl. + tap into your main boat batt'y...
I did that with my Eagle AccuNav Sport before the LMS332 came along.

:yikes:
When it comes to electronics I'd rather NOT replace anytime soon - I usually go ahead & spend the "BOHICA" price for the OEM adapter/cord , as all electronic devices contain different colors of sm0ke - and if you let said sm0ke out , they cease to function properly....
