I was one of the 8 fortunate hunters to get drawn for the Jan ELK hunt in area B. I am going to be hunting on the Canada Creek Ranch. I was wondering if anyone else on this site was drawn this year and if anyone has any experiences at canada creek?

See you at the orientation...I was drawn Cow X.
I'm heading up in the early morning and plan to spend the next couple of days psuedo-scouting.
I'm sure you'll have a fine hunt with Canada Creek. Did you get a bull / any elk tag?
There is another sport here who was also drawn.
Good luck. :)

yes I was one of two hunters for areaa b/x that got a bull tag. From What I hear there are a total of 8 drawn for Area b and 2 were bull/cow. And 7 of the 8 are hunting canada creek.

dirtysteve: There were a total of 14 hunters drawn for area B/X 6 have a any elk tag and 8 have a antlerless tag i know this because i guide and i get a list of hunters. Canada Creek may have 8 hunters but they don't trophy hunt so to speak. I will be guiding in area X with my hunters i hope you guys have a great hunt. Take care out there and please no what your shooting at and only shoot once we had 5 multiple kills in the first hunt and you don't want to make that mistake. see you guys at oreintation bye Carl

Thanks for the info. I was told that there were only 8 tags for area b by fellow from canada creek. He told me that there were 6 cow and two any elk tags for that area..HE said that he has 7 of the 8 hunters signed up to hunt on their property and only two of us will have bull tags. I may have heard him wrong over the phone though...I was in the process of opening my packet from the DNR at the time they called me. I was still doing a happy dance when the phone rang!!!
My Bro-in-law stopped up there last week and talked to a guide at canada creek. He said that they can have 150-200 elk on their property most of the time. Would you have any idea if this is fairly accurate?

What happens in a case like that, I am guessing you mean the same person killed more than 1 elk?

well the first thing is you have to call the DNR and report it because if you hide it you won't like the out come. They tell you they will go light on you if you shoot more than one elk and from what i have seen light is $2500 fine and $1500 restitution for the elk and the loss of your license for 3 years but even if you miss and shoot threw a branch and it ricaches into a elk you will be paying a fine and restitution and lose your license .. if you have a antlerless and you shoot a bull even if it is a spike and it has only 6 inche antlers its the same thing a fine and restitution and the loss of your license for a period of time and that depends on the CO if he beleaves your story and then the judge.. the fine can be as high as $10,000 but i have never seen one that high i guess it would depend on if you treid to hide it or what ever and i wouldn't reccomend that . Any way just be careful and know your target and by all means only shoot once, I know my hunters will only be allowed one shot and then we will look and see if we hit or not . i hope this helps and keep in mind these are from hunters who shot at a elk and it walked off then they see another elk and so they shoot again and low and behold they have 2 dead elk . they don't as a rule show any sign of being hit so dont take it that you missed all ways take it that you hit and go look and make sure then and only then go after that animal..Oh yeah the record is 4 elk shot by one hunter i don't think any one wants that record do you ....take care guys bye
