Right now with this sort of weather, where are the Panfish and the Bass holding up? I wanted to get out fishing today to try out my new stuff. Would I have any luck in the shallow weedy areas with a topwater mouse for Bass? Panfish in deep? Any help would be appreciated.
Panfish will be shallow, even shallower than you would expect, like 1-4'.
Bass will be deep and generally lethargic. Black and blue jigs barely crawled along the bottom might get one to move.

For bass try crawlers on a floating crawler harness/egg sinker setup at the base of prominent main-lake-point dropoffs, this works good for me. I put the egg sinker between the harness & the barrel swivel for this rig so it can't float up more than a foot or two. Usuallly fishing in about 20+ fow. I've caught several 4#+ lmb (& a 5#+!) like this while fishing during firearm deer season. Good luck.

Dont really know the area where you live but if there are any warmwater discharges that you know of hit these areas. Almost a sure bet in the winter time. Try a suspending crankbait near them. Just ease it along and dont expect to get a lot of bites. For cold water areas try a senko type lure. A suspending jerkbait may still get bites also. Remember sunny weather with calm winds is better for winter fishing because the bass move up to sun themselves or get warmer. Rocky areas can be dynamite when the sun comes out. Remember also that smallmouth are cool water fish and may be more aggressive than largemouth. That should get you started. Best of luck and let me know how you do!!!
