Caught this fish in Canada. At first glance it looks like a perch, but it has a mouth like a small mouth bass. This one is about 8 inches and most others were this size or bigger.
Any ideas?

Might be a perchass. We really can't be sure. Next time you go, send me a sample of these fish, perhaps 25 or 30, and I'll do my best to give you a positive ID. :D

It's not uncommon, especially in larger yellow bellys to have a mouth that is similar to a smallmouth. You'll even catch some that have a downturned, almost sucker mouth.

Yep, its a Canadian Perch. The somewhat larger mouth is not that uncommon in Canada. They get it from drinking to much Molsens and Labatts.
The good thing is that you dont have to deep fry them in beer. They already have a nice beer flavor to them. But if you want to , send me a couple dozen and I'll confirm that for ya.

Tell me exactly where you caught these strange fish and I will come out to assist in identifying. Don't worry about the deep fryer I bring out with me, I just use that as my bucket.

Must be a "Striped Hooker" with a mouth like that. Definately should be full of milk and you might find a wad of cash under the breast meat! :hide:

I just couldn't resist................sorry!
