Was planning a trip to the Detroit River for this weekend in search of Waldo. Should I consider postponing because of the oil spill? Are they still catching fish? (Don't really want to take the boat for 200+ mile round trip tour of the state and not get to fish.)

Up river from Zug Island is not effected by the spill. Areas around the Ambassador bridge, Cobo, the casinos and on up to LSC are producing more and more everyday.

Sure hope the culprits are found quickly and disposed of. What a mess!

jacondie,
I wouldn't postpone your trip because of the oil spill, but you might want to wait another week until fishing picks up. Right now it's still a tough bite. Were picking up some fish but the run has definetly not started yet.
I went out on the river Wednesday late afternoon to check things out and to fish. The smell from the oil was worse than any oil film out there,I had to get of the water early because it was giving me a bad headache. I saw boats coming out that had been fishing earlier and they were a mess (covered with oil) also talked to people who said they were having motor problems(overheating?) because of the oil.
The fast current in the river helped move it to Erie but you can definetly tell it passed thru.
Thursday is supposed to bring SE winds 15-20mph with gusts stronger(worst wind in my opinion). Friday wind with rain predicted, if you just want to get out and fish go for it, but it is going to get a lot better than what we have now.IMHO
