I usually ice fish inland lakes with tip ups for my eyes. Once in a while,
ill jig for em but 95% of the time its tip ups. My brother from saginaw area
came up last few years to fish with me when conditions kept ice off sag. bay
well into january.
He was surprised by the success we woud get with tip ups. He started out jigging 2
rods like he was used to, but soon switched to my extra tip ups when i kept
chasing flags while he got no hits.
He spends most of his time on the bay jigging with a rod in each hand. I asked
him if anybody used tips on the bay, he said " nope, its all jigging out there"
Seems like jigging with one rod & a tip up would be better than 2 rods
jigged 5-6' apart. The tip up could be placed in another location to maybe
find some fish to move the jigging to.
Anybody got any ideas why tip ups vs. jigging seems to be a inland vs.
great lakes issue?
