I finally filled both of my tags this year. I shot a doe the second week of oct and one yesterday it was a great christmas gift. The biggest one i got out of the 5 years ive hunted. I went and got a friend of mine to help he track it. We ended up finding it about 60 yards from where i shot it. This doe i shot was pregnant. She had 2 embroes (spelling) in it. They were about an inch big, and they had legs, tail, head, and gender was formed. I feel bad that i took her but i didnt know she was pregnant. My friend said there is nothing you could have done to tell if she was pregnant or not but my ? is how far along was she. I got on the internet last night to see if i could find some information on whitetail deer pregnancy, but couldnt find anything any info or a website would help
thanks

The QDMA offers a fetus scale in their online store at www.qdma.com (http://www.qdma.com). From what you described she was bred probably close to the first week in Nov.

Most does are pregnant right now. Nothing you can do about it. Think about it this way, the doe you shot in October would have been pregnant right now too. Don't let it bother you, some does usually have to be taken too. Next time, try not to look and then you really won't worry about it.
Congratulations - what a great Christmas present. I went out on the morning of the 24th and again today, the 26th. Didn't see anything, which was surprising. Last year I got one on Jan 1st - the very last day of the season. Don't worry about her being pregnant. Anyone who gets a doe after gun season is getting a pregnant one.
Congrats again, John-Ypsi

good job!! enjoy the venison and don't let it bother you, if you shoot one in October she may not be pregnant but she is not going to be either and that is part of QDM.

I am not a scientist but from what I have read over the years I think the odds are slim that any mature doe goes without being bred in a season unless they are weak or sick. So wether you shoot her early or late it will prevent some young from being born. I dont think you should have a moral dillema with this simply because of the time of year you shoot a doe. Congrats on fillin the freezer.
