Hey guys - anyone willing to share GPS coordinates for the sunken island that you can walk to on the ice off the north shore state park. Have found it before, but didn't have my GPS and can't for the life of me find it again.

Thanks for any help - Merry Christmas.

I doubt there is :~) Just planning ahead since this question always pops into my mind the night before we're heading there to fish through the ice. And then the comments always made on the drive there - boy, I hope somebody brought their GPS in case we find "that" spot again.

It's not GPS but it might get you close. http://terraserver.homeadvisor.msn.com/ just type in higgins lake, then mi , then click on one of the areas. It gives a visual of the highs and lows in lakes.

I just came back from Houghton & Higgins Lake and there isn't any ice at all on Higgins. The ice on Houghton is rotten.

Here the GPS coordinates to the center of the sunken island.

44.487352 N
84.751175 W

The sunken island is 1.7 miles from the N.. state park boat launch and only 1.4 miles from the west DNR boat launch.

Maybe we'll be on Higgins in another month if we get some cold wx.

which sunken island are you looking for. there are 2 one in the north basin and one in the south basin. I dont know the gps coordinates. I just know where they are from a lifetime of being a "local". but I could direct you to a road end that would get you much closer than the public access sites.

The most important question is what are you fishing for?

swampbuck - by "basin", I'll assume you are referring to the two sections of Higgins Lake. If that's the case, then it would be the one in the north basin. We're fishing for perch. We did absolutely great one day (a lot was the weather too) and I didn't have a GPS to mark the spot. I took some landmarks, but that's tough on an area that large.

A road end would be great because that's quite the hike from the west end.

The sunken island in the northern section of the lake is roughly 3500' across.
