Hey everyone. I was wondering with all the guys out on the lake what are the walleye feeding on? I know the few I have caught only one of them had anything in it's stomach (spelling?) and that was about a 1 1/2" bluegill. I'm trying to find a few baits that will mimic what the eyes are eating.
Thanks in advance guys.

Not sure what they are feeding on, changes with location and what bait is around, but the high river, reduced visibility, high pressure, and warmer water temps have sure killed the bite for now. The fish have had alewives or shad in their bellies, along with some gobies and perch. When the water temps drop below 40 degrees a longer profile shallow running stick bait will get more walleye bites due to the slow rolling action. Incorporate plenty of pauses in your retrieve or troll to get them to bite. The faster action lures with the longer lips and tighter wobble will probably not be as effective. This being said #12 and #14 Rapala Husky Jerks have worked consistently out there. The Glass colors have been especially effective for the last few years. Other baits with similar size and profile have worked too. Good fishing.

This time of year they eat about anything that is easy. So far I have caught them with Shad, Bluegills,Perch and one even had a small Pike in it. They got the feed bag when they come into the lake. But what Tim said is true: The Husky's in 12 and 14 are doing the most damage.

Thanks for the info. guys. It sounds like I'm throwing the right baits. I just need the weather to turn around. Sounds like we are supposed to get some walleye waether this weekend. Sure hope they turn back on soon. the ol' freezer is getting preaty low in the fillet department.
