Welcome to the site, we were just up there last weekend, and there is no skim ice even on the small ponds, that may change, but its going to be a while before it freezes, solid.

As of right now, it's 36 degrees here and raining:rant: I've been out on the boat over the past couple days searching the south end for perch with no luck. Did pick up a throw back (22") pike, but that's it for this visit.

Yep, took the dog for a swim this afternoon. It will take a bunch of cold weather before there is any ice.

take your tip-ups and add about 50 yards of 20lb mono to the end of your boat and go from the damn to doctors point right on the weed bed edge and watch those ****flags**** pop! p.s. 4-5 inch shinners are the ticket

Talked to a friend up there tonight - east bay is ugly with refroze broken ice, he walked out a bit but it was cracking. He wound up trying the south end. Ice is a couple inches, held him and another guy into 4 fow. They set tip ups there and watched from shore. Got a flag and got the soaker in 2 fow where they had knocked a hole and flooded the ice one the way out. If the forecasts are correct, the shallows on the south end and east bay should be fishable this weekend.

I got a call from a local friend this morning, the guy that when through is a fishing buddy - he was in about 10 fow, and spent 25 minutes waiting for help...he was fishing alone and very lucky someone heard him yell for help. Wound up going to the ER for hypothermia. Be safe out there, and never go on the ice all alone. Hoping to make it up there next weekend.

Your location indicates you should be telling us conditions:lol: Sounds like "parts" of the south end and east bay are fishable. Heard off Len/Lanes (S/E corner) still very iffy. It's still getting cold up there at night, so it should be making ice. Be very careful around snow covered areas - that's where the guy broke through. The snow must be deep enough to insulate the ice and slow making new ice. Again, I'm getting this all second hand. Last time I was up there was New Years and I was fishing in a boat.
I'm staying in Muskegon this weekend - fishing/ice are too good to leave:D

i just put down hubbard lake as my location, because thats where i go.
:smile-mad
Made it over there Fri/Sat for a couple of all-days. Fri went off the south end and walked out just past the only permanent shanty that was there (1/2 mi? — 10-12 fow) and though there were a couple of quads past us one was by local accounts ill-advised. 1 'eye and 2 perch. Churchill Sat very random ice and spud required, poked around and found 8" over 25' but it took some doing 5 'eyes. There were some folks around us and various other bays but we didn't venture to north end.

My in-laws went up over the weekend, they walked out on the ice (south end), but they don't ice fish. They said the guy that went through the ice went back out the next day. I think I might take a couple of days off to clean my shorts if I went through.

He went out to get his gear, but still ripped to get out and fish.
