I ve gotten a lot of ims asking about shallow water fishing for walleye so i figure ill answere everything at once here....the bay has changed a great deal in the past 15 years with the clarification of the water and the invasive species we have now. back when the water was dirty walleye held in shallow a lot more ,,,now they move in only certain times last ice is by far the best fishing in less then 5 fow first ice can be productive too,,but remember too the water is still low and some places that had great structure and held fish 15 years ago are still there but there in 4 fow now.....last ice the flats along side river mouths are the place to be esepcially around or after dark,,the numbers of small fish are another reason to try shallow most of the local marinas have good numbers of small fish in the winter,, there were days in the past two years i caught 50 undersized walleye and not one keeper fishing directly in the rivers ,,,how i find my spot is easy i go perch fishing ive found 5 good shallow walleye spots by perty much accedent looken for perch,,,,if theres perch there is bait and usually at dusk the perch disapeer and the walleye show up,,,,,

bait: large shiner and jig or smallest size jigging rap...
or a small treble hook and shiner with no wieght at all...but im sure about any walleye jigging baits would work...

tackle...i started out with my normal deep water gear it doesnt work...if your catching 2 pound fish its fine but a 5 lb walleye in 3 fow isnt easy to land on 10lb test,,,,i went up to 20 lb mono and 30 lb braid that way i can pull the fishes nose straight up into the hole...if they pull drag and can roll directly under the ice there gone....
,\
.
if you try this and see fish remember they can see you too slush in the hole isnt a bad idea,,,,if i missed anything just ask :chillin:
