Well took a drive over to Loon **** Bay today, and to my surprise there was a good 3 to 4 inches of ice on it found a couple of guys fishing on it. So since I just live down the street a couple of miles went home got my stuff and took a friend that has never been on the ice in his life. i dont know what was more fun first ice or watching his face when the ice cracked. But to get to the fishing report i didn't catch a thing not a damn thing. but it was first ice and i fill my craving for the ice fishing fever. this week coming up im sure with the warm weather the ice will be gone.

Ah it feels good to be backonline. This is my first time back on the site since I started my new job.
Hey netware, I was out on there on Sunday as well. I was in the Clam shanty and didn't catch 1 fish and we moved around a bit as well. On saturday I did manage to catch a pike while jigging. That was fun since I was trying to catch perch and was only using 2lb test with wax worm and a small jig. Thing must have been hungry. Well, got quite a bit of reading to do to get caught up on this site.

I don't get it, I have a cabin right there on Pine Acre Rd and in the past few years there have been more fishing being done there than I can ever remember. The fishing has never been very good on the bay, my ol neighbor John Staub (Now gone) fished it for panfish for years and he never did very well but it was close. We used to get a few pike from the bay but with the crowds it has been kind of wiped out for awhile it looks like. He used to get some huge perch up on the pond above 5 channel but I don't know where. He also told me the record Bluegill that was reported and in the books from up by Glennie really came out of Alcona pond, but the guy did not want others getting into his fish.
Any snow up there I have a need to ride.

You know I have two sides to that "coin" i have fished it for years and come home empty handed more times than ever, then a few times i have cought some of the biggest gills and perch ever. So most of the time it is a dead place to fish, but if you fish it enough you will have those great days that makes it all worth it. I always catch pike, nice pike, dont always catch gills, but i have got into some monsters.

as far as snow there is none, i checked another lake in sand lake it still had 2 1/2" or so, havent checked loon poop bay, i still think that there is ice, just not safe ice, that place is always the first place to freeze around here.

Yes it freezes to soon I believe that is why is gets the early in the year crowd. Last year the road was busy with folks going down to the bay. I have fished it more than a handful of times with a few pike to show for it. My gosh when I first got the cabin only a handful of guys would ever be out on the bay and now it is just a zoo, most Saturdays have around 50 guys. They only come once as it just is not that good. I must find that sign that is up somewhere that says they are killen them on Loon **** Bay. I think the name brings the guys in as that nasty word in the middle is part of the name of the bay not just a add on.

Not all people need to catch fish to have a good day of fishing. I wouldn't care if I made a trip up north and didn't catch fish because it's still up north and fun being with friends. Hopefully i'll be able to get a chance to try the bay this year while i'm over fishing some of the other lakes nearby.
