Panfish Rod

Im looking for a 6-6 1/2 ft panfish rod. Do you guys have any suggestions? I see G Loomis makes great rods but, unfortunately, my wife wont go for it. Has anyone heard how the crappies have been doing?

Choice of rod is determined by how you fish..fly, spinners, bait, etc. and feel. What "feels" right to you. For bluegills I love my 2wgt, 8.5 ft. flyrod. I can use fly stuff, spinners, jigs, bait, etc. For money, I'd suggest secreting away a "mad money fund". Of course, I'm retired and I don't have youngsters at home. I also work at a local golf course and that's my "mad money". Orvis, Loomis, etc. make some great rods indeed. If they are out of your price range keep track of MC Sports and Gander Mt. in your area. Meijer's offers some good buys on rods that feel good to you. I'd go with feel first and name second.

well elh my wife wont go for the big name rods either I look at them at carbellas and her eyes bug out. I have a couple of rods that I have purchased that were in my wifes price range that are fun to use good casters and pretty durable. Look for an uglystick with your demensions you should be happy. I did pick up a rod I would recommend to any panfisherman. It is a B-n-M sam heaton signature series im6 9'0 crappie series rod bought it at carbellas for about $ 50.00 2 years ago. I even use this rod on the pier for whitefish and jacks this rod is a blast for bull gills on their beds too.

I have a 6' or 6.5' ultralight Diawa that I like a lot. It was under $30. I use it for panfish and trout (and the wayward bass LOL!). It's a good rod.

You might wan't to look at the Fish Eagle II combo that Cabelas offers rod and reel $60, the Microlight in 7ft 2pc at $40 is a good rod also. In my mind if you spend 30-60 dollars on a rod there are enough good choices out there that you really should think twice about bragging about how much you spent on a rod. Best panfish rod I ever owned was a 6.6 2pc medium lamiglass blank which I beleive was a Garcia traded it off years ago, fast and forgiving and just enough length that you could clear the line up of the bottom to set the hook, something that can be next to impossible with shorter ultralights especially on longer casts with set lines and bobbers.

I have been using the Bass Pro extreme series rods for Perch for about 4 years. The 6 ft. light action has great sensitivity, They usually have Spring specials and offer it as a combo with a Shimano Stadic reel and the price is about $125 (bought separately would cost over $200). The Stradic reel has been great also.

I am an Ugly Stik fan also, I have a 4'6" model and a 5' model that I use for everything from bluegill to suckers to bass. It's hard to beat the sensitivity or the price. Plus, like beemerman said, they don't break easy and when they do you get a new one for free. Big Al
