was readin' some of the Walleye reports, comments....ect.. In here. and it hit me.....I've fished for Walleye many years when livin' in Ohio, as well as fished with many people that fished for them, some of whom fish for ONLY Walleye. and some of these people have been tossin' out the best meat of the Walleye all their lives.....so here is my question......how many of you guy's, and or Gal's cut out the cheek meat! it has the texture of lobster! A few buds and I would save all these till the Browns opener of the football season! 3 pounders and up are well worth cuttin' out the cheeks!! so if you are not doin' it now....ya might want to start....or call me...lol...I'll come get em!!!!!

Cheeks are great been eating them for as long as I have been fishing for eyes. I also keep them from fish around 2-3 lbs and up.

For me, it's cheeks, meat and roe. All the way.

I've even been known to simmer the heads and bones for a nice fish broth once and a while, too.

Try cutting the tight skein roe into silver dollar pieces about 3/4 of an inch think or so and fry 'em up as you would the fillets.....has the texture kind of like hush puppies and tastes real good also.

Now if I could only find a purpose for those scales...

Good eats!

I have a serious walleye fishing friend that saves the cheeks for a whole year and has one delux special dinner usually for a special event or holiday. A couple years ago the freezer burned out without his knowledge. He said he cried, not for the several hundred dollars of beef, but for the lost walleye cheeks.

I love them cheeks also. I get to eat them all myself to because my wife will not touch them. Kind of like I will not touch that roe. YUK!!
I'm heading down to Port Clinton wed. for 5 days of walleye fishing so I hope to be having a meal of those cheeks for myself in a week or so.

GOOD FISHING
