Went out of Bolles Harbor yesterday afternoon to break in the motor on my brothers new boat. Found poorly marked nets strung from east to west just north of outer buoy. Had to swing way out over a mile to go around them to get to Brest bay. I have never seen fishing nets in the Brest bay area before. Boaters beware these nets are very hard to see.

The DNR has fished trap nets between Bolles Harbor and the River Raisin each spring since 1978. Walleye are caught, tagged, and released to monitor exploitation and movements. The nets are marked with Flags on staffs at each end and with yellow floats between the flags. The nets are usually fished during April.

Thanks for the imput Duck, We usually don't hit the water until May, I guess that explains why I never saw them before. Yeah I saw the small flag at the landward side but it was hard to pick up in the chop. And once I knew it was there it was pretty easy to pick up the other one.
