I was a volunteer hunter today for the Oakland County Parks. Had a chance to get outside and hunt a bit while hopefully getting some venison for Michigan Sportsmen against Hunger. It was a crisp winter afternoon and I enjoyed every minute of it! Had a chance to snap a couple pics of the action...http://www.michigan-sportsman.com/photopost/data/539/medium/Park_Hunt.jpg

Ok so I hope that wasn't too much excitement!!!!???;)

I always had the impression that the cull hunts were something like an easy hunt??? Anyhow par for the course in respect to my deer season this year.:dizzy: There were 8 hunters today and 3 deer were taken.

The hunts are extremely well organized, and it is nice to be able to help the herd, the park itself, and hopefully see some food find it's way to needy recipients. I will be back out there again on the 13th and hopefully be able to report some better results!

I hate to say it, but judging from pic#2 I would be hunting 30-40 yards to your left. There should be a really heavily used run to the backside of that meadow and you are almost out of range to pick off any deer using that funnel.

Just my thoughts.

There are a bunch of other options I would have used. We passed a lot of nicer spots on my ride out there.

Rules dictate that you have to hunt in the blind and you have to shoot within pre-determined lanes. They have them marked by tape. They have a real strict safety policy due to concerns about nearby residences etc.

I get the impression that they walk the tightrope to balance the public perception vs. what is necessary for the good of the park and the health of the deer. They have legit safety concerns everyone has radios etc. the park is closed but they ended up arresting some joggers who came in through a breach in the fence and were radioed in by one of the hunters. They simply cant afford any bad press.

Thats the long winded way of saying I hunted that particular spot 'cause they told me to!

Haven't you ever deer hunted before Joel? Maybe you just stink... .

Anyway, looks like a great view! Bet it was about 10 times better then the view I had all day at work...even if it was below freezing out. Better luck next time out!!!

I love thas web site. You can always count on somebody passing on their expertise, whether you want it or not. So many experts. I wish I knew what so many others know about the woods, or claim to know.

Best of luck NEsportsman.
