I heard a rumor today that Houghton Lake skimmed over. Does anyone know if this is true?

I was there today. It is not skimmed over. Some of the ponds had
some thin ice on them. They got something like 8-10 inch of snow
and the sleds are out, but no ice on the lake yet.

I talked to a guy that livs on the lake there. He said that it skimmed over a couple of times. I don't know for sure if it did, but with this weather it should skimm over pretty soon.

When the ice is safe for human travel I will post that. It was just skimmed over last night but the wind may have blown it in. I'll post tonight when I get home.

I heard rumors that Houghton is iced over now, can anyone confirm that? If so, anyone know how much ice is out there?

I've been getting home after dark the last couple of days. Sounds as if the whole lake is froze over. I'll try to get an eyeball:16suspect on the situation today.

Sounds good, I'll look forward to hearing from you pike man. Do you do any walleye fishing out there? If so, send me a pm and we'll have to chat.

Well from my observation the east bay is totally frozen over. That's all I could see this afternoon around 5:00pm. We also got around 4" of fresh powder today. So we now have around 10" on the ground. Supposed to get a little warmer tommorrow ( Friday ) even warmer over the weekend. I'll keep posting.

As of this afternoon HL has approx. an inch of slush on top, then an inch of frozen slush, below that is an inch of water, then an 1 1/2 of very soft ice.

I just came back for Houghton L. last night. There is roughly 30' of open water around the shoreline where I checked and the ice is rotten. The snow never let the ice thicken, even though the temperatures were in the single digits a few nights. :(
