don't overlook round lake when the wind picks up at the other-it's a little more protected and we do pretty good there too. Soon as he quits hunting I'll get the reports...I can't wait!

LOL, yeah that is kind of a long drive to the lake but if you can get yourself into some good fishing then it's definitely worth it. You can call JR's bait shop at (906) 586-6040 or The Fish & Hunt Shop (906) 586-9531 for lake reports. I'm sure that there will be safe ice up there within the next week. What kind of fish will you be targeting?

yeah i actually have the fish and hunt shops card:) but i figured if someone here lived right around there i would be lazy and just ask on here haha but they are really nice people there. so i will probably give them a call a little later on and get a fishing report. When you heading up there? Im thinking about going up over christmas break sometime... probably not till after christmas and before the 1st im thinking... not sure when school starts it might have to wait till after the 1st if i have enough time...

as to what i am targeting: Walleye, Perch, Pike, Gills, anything that bites.... last time when i was up there i didnt catch any walleye... which is what i said i was going after but i did catch some pike and perch and a few gills. Im really not picky.. i have only caught like 1 keeper walleye in that darn lake and only a handful of keeper pike and i fish summer and winter... still fun catching fish though so im not going to complain. so i mean if you want to you can probably PM me all the hot spots  . we talked to one of the older gentelman working the counter at the fish and hunt shop for like a half hour one day... i think his name was mike. he gave us a map and marked on it where we would have the best bet to catch certain fish that we were trying to catch so im hoping this year goes a bit better than the last couple.

Looks like the weather might start to turn 'favorable' Monday.

Everyone think cold . . . and maybe we'll have a Christmas present:fish:

If anyone plans to ice fish any of the Manistique Lakes soon; you need to bring your boat along. It rained all day yesterday & through the night also. Don't want to burst anyones bubble about ice fishing; but ice is extremely dangerous/unsafe here in the DA UP. Jeff

I drove by both lakes yesterday in persuit of some hunting property. South lk. had open water in the center with few people fishing the edges.
And the same with the North lk. Could'nt tell ya how much ice though.

I'll be headed up Mon. I'll try and get an report then.

Well we just got back and overall had a pretty good time. About 2/3 of south manistique had ice, mostly in the bays. The middle parts were all open water. We fished wolfe bay everyday and it had about 4 inches of solid ice. There were even snow mobiles out there one day but they were all the way inside the bay. We did pretty well, We caught some nice pike, a nice 23" walleye, bunch of hammer handles and at least a dozen largies. I will post pics as soon as I can. Also drove by the big lake and the whole lake looked frozen from what I saw, I spudded a hole and found 4 inches of ice. The bad news is it rained all day yesterday and this morning when I looked at the ice there was water on top and didn't look very safe. A couple days and nights of cold weather should harden it right back up.

Well if worst comes to worst and you can't fish the south lake, you can always fish the big lake it didn't have any open water on it last week. There are other smaller lakes in the area too you could always fish on. Good luck.

We tried to fish there last Fri. and couldn't. We found ice farther north on some of the smaller lakes and had a blast catching Splake. Good Luck!
