Let me start with a little background. My dad has only hunted like 3 times his whole life. I asked him last year that if I built him a shack to hunt out of fairly close to the house and put a heater in it if he would like to hunt. He said heck yeah. So I built him a stellar shack about 60 yards from the back door right through a main trail in a thicket. Unfortunately, he fell and broke his hip 3 weeks before the season. Bummer...his season was done before it started.

Fast forward to this year. He's all excited to get out and hunt. He's been out 3 times before tonight (remember, he's my dad and 62 years old...he doesn't have the stamina nor drive as the rest of us) and he finally saw his first deer of the season tonight. He sized up the doe and the old and trusty 16 guage found its' mark. She took off and it's so thick in there he didn't know how far she ran. I got down from my stand and walked up to his shack as he was getting out. He said he made a good shot and found blood but couldn't make his way through the thicket. I walked (pushed) my way through the thicket following the blood trail and there she was piled up not 35 yards from where he shot. What a rush! My dad's first deer and I was there to share the moment. I can't say how awesome tonight was. We were both so geeked! Finally something my dad and I can do together. Here are a few pictures to share our night...

Great job! Wow usually it's the other way around the dad is helping the son get his first deer. This is a very cool story and your dad is lucky to have a son like you. Family is what life is all about and I think it's awesome that you can make memories with your father at his age. Personally, my family doesn't get along and my parents, sister, and brother live in Maryland so we rarely get to see one another. I would love to be able to hunt with my father. It is something that he enjoys, but doesn't get to do since he lives near the city. Maybe one day I will get a nice spot that I can get him on with me and we can make some great memories like the one you just made. Tell your dad congrats and good luck for the rest of the season.

Thanks for all the kind and positvie comments everyone. I do have to share one more thing. My dad had a deal with my mom about deer season this year. He told her that he wasn't going to shave until either he got a deer or the season ended, whichever came first. Well when I found his deer for him, the first thing he said was "Damn! Now your mom's going to make me shave!"
