Let me start with a little background. My dad has only hunted like 3 times his whole life. I asked him last year that if I built him a shack to hunt out of fairly close to the house and put a heater in it if he would like to hunt. He said heck yeah. So I built him a stellar shack about 60 yards from the back door right through a main trail in a thicket. Unfortunately, he fell and broke his hip 3 weeks before the season. Bummer...his season was done before it started.
Fast forward to this year. He's all excited to get out and hunt. He's been out 3 times before tonight (remember, he's my dad and 62 years old...he doesn't have the stamina nor drive as the rest of us) and he finally saw his first deer of the season tonight. He sized up the doe and the old and trusty 16 guage found its' mark. She took off and it's so thick in there he didn't know how far she ran. I got down from my stand and walked up to his shack as he was getting out. He said he made a good shot and found blood but couldn't make his way through the thicket. I walked (pushed) my way through the thicket following the blood trail and there she was piled up not 35 yards from where he shot. What a rush! My dad's first deer and I was there to share the moment. I can't say how awesome tonight was. We were both so geeked! Finally something my dad and I can do together. Here are a few pictures to share our night...
