Caught a 5 lb sucker thru the ice on Hamlin lake 2 years ago but never a cat.......................
I'd imagine someone has somewhere along the line with a smelt on a tip up..........................

I got one at Lake Margarethe Up by Grayling one year. Sucker was huge!
We saw him sitting on the bottom and my buddy who doesn't fish that much drilled a hole above him. Droped a large dead sucker witha big sinker on his head to wake him up. I watched all of this from a near by hole. The catfish swam around a little and then slowly grabbed the sucker.
I have also caught some nedium channels out of a pond we fish while jiggin for bluegills with waxworms.

Two years ago we got 2 bullheads through the ice at lake of the woods on minnows it was the only thing we caught the whole night so we changed our tactics and tryed to catch more, there werent very big but people on the ice were amazed as we were to see them pulled through the ice,

ive also caught bullheads on a plain hook and minnow, fishing on/near the bottom and well after dark. actually was fishing near an old submerged bridge. there is also a lake around here where you can catch really nice channel cats (?) (the real silvery/blueish ones) on jigging rapalas. (on flats where you might also find eyes.) during the day.

i caught one on bass lake in northern kent county last year. gave me a real battle on my little pole.it was about 18".

I've been on that lake a few times in summer. Was it a channel cat, flathead, or monster bullhead:lol: ? Were u fishing deep for gills?

I once nearly caught a large channel cat in a small pond in Lansing. I was using waxies at dusk with UL 2lb test it took about 20 minutes to get it up, then there was no way to get its head up in the hole, I reached threw but my arm and the fish would not fit so I just tried to pull it up and the line broke.

yep a couple of years ago on gillets lake in jackson county. we started catching them and it was fun most of them were in the 15 to 20 inch range though we did catch a few bigger ones and hooked a few that we couldnt even turn. from that point on i was hooked every time i went icefishing it was for those cats. that is where i came up with the name icecathound and have used it ever since. i didnt get in any ice time last year the ice never got hard enough for me in this area. im hoping to get back out after them this year and put some of those delicous fillets on the table.

Infisherman has an icefishing video and it has a whole segment on cats through the ice. It was quite interesting. I have not tried it myself yet but it looks like fun. If I remember correctly they were just using jig and minnow combinations and fishing near river inlets.

A few years ago we got into a big group of them off of Linwood in Saginaw Bay. I think it was towards last ice in about 18' of water. One evening it was 3 cats to every walleye. They hit cleo's or do-jiggers tipped with minnows. Pretty weird to say the least...
