I'm looking for a few good men....lets start with getting a group together, applying for nonprofit organization status, electing a board, and taking donations for membership dues. spread the word, lets kick them anti's into next week. all you members of local DU, delta waterfowl, NWTF, pheasants forever, Michigan big game hunters, north american hunt club, MUCC, michigan bowhunters, michigan bear hunters, ect...lets unite, under one banner, there's enough of us on MS to put down a baseline....lets grow and strengthen, and prevail next time those anti SOB's come after us. as we say in the ARMY...no man messes with someone on our team!

I would be willing to donate some time and effort to a group such as this. If there were fund raising dinners going on continually so that there was cash in the bank to fight anti hunting movements it would be enormously helpful the next time some anti hunting movement arises. That is what a lot of it comes down to is cash to get the word out. HSUS has almost unlimited cash to get their false and emotional message out to people. If MIchigan could just mobilize the hunters and fishermen in this state on a regular basis there would be no fear of these issues going forward. However as the polls showed, there had to be a lot of sportsmen that voted NO on Prop 3.

This is what it's all about........grass roots movements.

I believe we need something to generate money to produce and air TELEVISION COMMERCIALS. I firmly believe the antis got their message across by using affective (albeit deceitful) tv ads.

They definitely used television to their advantage. The ads were crap, but they worked.

Whatever organization gets started is going to need to have media, PR and Marketing experience. That's they only way to beat the antis at their own game.

I'm in. We can't let the bastages run this state. Plus I've seen how much outside help we will get when the dove proposal came to a vote.

This sounds like a great idea. The first thing I thought of after the election results was how long until they come after woodcock or bluegills? They will be back looking for more the first chance they get.
Just a thought, if you want to get support from those who fish and camp, you may want to add that to the logo. I know it is already packed, but I think it would show inclusiveness.
Getting help from all the major statewide organizations as soon as possible while the defeat is still fresh in our minds would help to push this along faster than anything I can think of.
Let this be the last time they have reason to celebrate!

I agree..........only it should of happened 10 months ago.

For those that already belong to a "club" of somekind; did you get YOUR club "active" is this fight? How much time/effort did you put in on the dove issue? OK, so "you" voted yes. But how many "no" votes got by you because "YOU" didn't take the time to do something " back then".

We don't need a "new" united front for every issue that faces us. Be "ACTIVE" in your group/area "year round" and when the fight comes "WE" will be ready.

CWC did everything they could to get proposal 3 passed. MUCC is a great voice for sportsmen and women in Michigan. They are 10,000 members and 500 affiliated clubs strong. I doubt any "new group" will be able to attain that strength in one year.

Sounds like a few are anrgy about lossing the dove hunt. I'm glad you are angry. I'm sorry it took such a loss to get some to do more for our sport.

So what do we do about "the next fight"? Start NOW by talking to everyone you can about what it is we really loss. And don't stop talking about it. Get involved with your representatives in Lansing. Tell them what goups you belong to and that you want change to happen so this can't happen here again. If you want someone to represent your views in Lansing, go to http://www.firearmsalliance.org/ and get involved.

I don't trap, but if they come after the trapping SPORT in Michigan I'll be in the fight just as much as I was for the dove hunt. If they try to limit OUR fishing in any way, I'll be in the fight.

The time for complaining is past. BE ACTIVE !!!!!!!!!!!!

I really wish one of these organizations would setup a database of those businesses who contribute to anti-hunting campaigns. After proposal 3 my eyes were really opened up to how much contribution there is locally.

It will take a lot of work to set up and maintain. If you're willing to do the work, I'll give you all space you need at www.migunowners.org (http://www.migunowners.org) .

What is everybody signing up for?? An eMail list?? That will not get the job done.

It is not easy to start a statewide organization, set up a constitution, fill in the articles of incorporation with the state, file for a tax payer identification number, then file for the 501c3 status.

Instead of unity you are talking about further division. There already are active local clubs and active organizations on a state level. Get involved with them. Make they even more active and more powerful.

Out of all of those who have signed up for an eMail list on Yahoo! just how many have been members of a hunting, fishing, shooting, or outdoor activity club or organization??? Are you going into this blind??

As Terry and Mike asked, where was all this enthusiasim 2 months ago, 10 months ago, 15 months ago when we all knew the issue was on the ballot??

Unity means getting involved with what you already have and making it stronger, but I already said that.

I think I'm qualified to start this organization, yeah right now, to build membership, it's an ''e-mail list" it's not something that will happen overnight, and it's nothing against other groups, and i really can't see how it will divide us if we're all united on one front, I welcome ALL hunters, members of ALL organizations no matter what the race, sex, religion or otherwise, i don't care if you hunt with a gun, a bow, over bait, without bait, shoot divers or puddlers, pheasants on a preserve or wild... I don't care, we need to get together and prepare for '08 starting now.

As far as I know, there were far too many "established" groups unwilling to fight in this past election. From the loooks of it, mydogisscout is not going to be one of those come '08. Kudos to you mydog for at least trying to do something other than complain about someone elses attempts.

I agree with those who have already said that there are established groups that fought for passage of Prop 3 and that this eMail list is just reinventing the wheel. Yet, I am willing to join the list (even though I am on 10 or more hunting and gun related email lists already).

If nothing else, it can help to get a few more of us actively looking at what happened and what can be done to help the situation.

As far as I know, there were far too many "established" groups unwilling to fight in this past election.
My take on this is that these "established" groups were the local hunting, shooting, and fishing clubs. The "established" state and national groups did join the fight. As some have already pointed out in other threads here, other msg boards, and in some of the activist oriented eMail lists the issue was pretty much a looser from the beginning.

If this is the case, and most likely in reality it is, the anti people, and especially HSUS, spent over 3 Million on something they had already won. The bright side to this is that some of the hunters woke up to what is happening out there and how organized the anti crowd is getting to be and how they are willing to spend big dollars.

We have to get the "average joe" to stop sitting at the picnic table with his buddys thinking that everything is OK. Look at the number of people who participate on this Message Board who said they did not think that there was any way we would loose Prop 3. This number is almost as many as those who decided to vote against Prop 3.
