Now that's real helpful...whats the point?

I'll be the helpful one kinda. I don't know the area, but try and get a hold of a county map and see what state land is in the area. Hopefully someone else would gladly help you out. Good luck

Nick:

I can't be of much help in suggesting where you could hunt but I wanted to let you know that I think the comment Whit 1 gave was uncalled for. Not all people on this site share his same sentiment. Good Luck.

Wow so uncalled for and from a moderator to boot, now I see why this site is the way it is at times. You need to set examples for the rest of the guys on here and from what I just saw you must feel differently. He lost his driving privileges not his hunting privileges and was asking for help on finding a place to hunt so why not keep it at that.

Take GomerPyle's advice and look at some county maps. You could always knock on some doors in your area as well. Good luck!

Whits post seemed a little out of character for him, maybe posting at that early an hour had something to do with it.

...who hath not sinned, cast the first stone" WHIT!!

This actually reminds me of how this parable came about...

We all know that one day, Jesus came upon a mob that was in the process of stoning a woman to death who was caught in the act of adultery (as opposed to adolescent tree--which are not as tall as adult trees). Jesus, seeing an opportunity to make a profound point then uttered the famous quote "Let he amongst you who hath not sinned, cast the first stone”. The mob fell, suddenly and totally quiet.

Then, from the back of a crowd a woman's voice could be heard laughing and a rock was thrown from that direction that hit the adulteress squarely on the noggin. Jesus, angry that someone would do such a thing after he had just made such a profound statement, whirled around to see who would do such a dastardly act. Suddenly recognizing the stone thrower, Jesus became even angrier and then shouted; "Ma, sometimes you really p*** me off."

There are no stones being cast and not an early morning/no sleep thing either. It was merely a suggestion and perhaps an urging. If you can't see the point there's no way to explain it to you in these forums.

By the way I have walked in those shoes.

Guess I just don't see the point you were trying to relay. Like another post said, the advice he was looking for had to do with his HUNTING issue, not his driving issue. Just so happens that it plays a role in his problem thus he mentioned it. We should stick with that. The JUDGE already handled his driving issues.

Oh so by walking in his shoes makes it ok to cast stones? The point is whit; he didn't ask about what he could do to not get a suspended license, he asked about places to hunt. As a moderator and someone who is supposed to keep people from flaming, I find it embarassing that you of all people would start something. Next time why don't you just answer the original question. I'm sure he's learned all the lessons of having a suspended license. Sometimes the people on this site are simply incredible. Good luck in finding property, jttf, I'd offer my insight, but I'm not familiar with Ottawa county.

"any one know what i could do?"

Thats the title of the thread right?

I think Whit answered an important part of it.

Man I hate some of these threads--just a bitch session--getting back to a more important item (hunting) I would check county maps and then start calling all of the friends I possibly know to see if they can drive you or go with you even!

Good luck!

Back on thread: I live in Ottawa county and there are many new areas opened to hunting that the county owns, and some state land pieces worth considering too. PM me or post the rough location & I'll advise you as best as I can. If you are anywhere near the north side of the county, I know of a lot of public land that hold good deer numbers along the Grand River.

Now, that's a helpful answer.

and now back to our "answer" in question:

Let's say you drink and party and maybe have some bad influence friends (those never help) and you get in trouble. So you try other hobbies, like fishing or hunting to DEAL with the bad habit so you try to find other (more helpful friends or crowd) and could go on and on and on ......... Let's just try to be there for people, ok?

Anyhow, just venting I guess.

If you havent already looked at the MI dnr site they have a listing of public hunting property there. Maybe you will find something there. Good luck man!

Everyone will be happy to know that despite losing his driving privileges the original poster used good old Michigan ingenuity and managed to come up with a plan to successfully harvest a deer this year. He was spotted coming home with his trophy this afternoon.

Just out of curiosity where was the land you used to hunt that was turned into a park? Im in ottawa county, but hunt a very small chunk of private land in a very urban setting. I would follow the advice that has already been given, and also would at least try knocking on a few doors, worst comes to worst you might come up with some properties for next season if they aren't willing to let you hunt this year. Good luck,
Joel

I live in the county above you (thus the sign in name). I do not know ottawa well but first I would recommend going to town and buying a "plat Book" all state land will be listed + all the names of all of the private property owners. The two obvious large plots of land I know of (as does every other hunter in our area) is muskegon state game area and Manistee national forest which comes as far down as muskegon county. Hopethis helps you. Jim

And if you write or call the County requesting a map showing County lands open to hunting, they will mail you a free set of maps illustrating approx 10 pieces of land, ranging from 15 acres to 50 acres; mostly located in the northern part of the county. They've added 3 new pieces in 2005/2006, so there's quite a bit to choose from. And, amazingly enough, there's pretty good deer numbers in many of them.:)

Good luck, and let us know if you connect on a deer.

I would also check if there is any H.A.P land around you. For those who are not aware: HAP land is private land that is huntable(is that a real word?)through combined efforts of the landowner and the DNR. There is an area of HAP land in Sanilac county that I stumbled across while I was scoping out some coon hunting property. I had never been aware of such a program and it was cool to come across. I stopped and went up to the gentleman's door. He was not home, but on his front porch was a map of his property and a sign in sheet. On the sheet you need to put down when you arrived, species hunting and your name. I returned the next day to speak with this gentleman. After talking to him for a while, he directed me to Farmer Bob's house down the road (who has about 200acres)Farmer Bob said get rid of all these coon. By the end of that morning, I had about 60Acres of HAP land to hunt, followed by an additional 200 that butted up against the hap boundry. The HAP land is clearly marked. I hope this helps....

Excellent point, Ottawa County has some very good HAP land right on 104th in Robinson Township, and a few other pieces worth consdering too.

I have found my biggest source of public info to be a plat book as long as it is fairly recent. Well worth the 20 bucks or whatever they are.

There is also an atlas, red in color at walmart. EXCELLENT source of info, it had all roads as of date of print. I use this as much or more than the plat. It contains every county in the UP and LP. Excellent source of info, did I say that?

The plat book money goes for a good cause also. It is part of the funds for 4-h. Are the HAP lands the same as the CRP?

And Whit1 i am ashamed of reading your post. I get your point but i think it needed to be toned down. Sorry for my opinion.

Not positive, Conservation reserve program????? Its for farmers that want to let the land rest for a while. I believe they get a tax cut for it.
