We may have lost Prop 3, but we DID win Prop 1! At least funds will stay with the DNR and NRC. Maybe we can hire some more CO's! Maybe we'll be able to afford a better deer management plan!

As a result we will now have to fight to keep those things we now have...that is the cost of apathy.:(

That's the slippery slope we're on now. Yes we did lose something. Until every sportsman and woman is convinced that we DID lose something, we will continue to be divided and conquered by HSUS and the other anti-hunting organizations.

Times are changing. And not neccesarily for the better for hunters and trappers. There are more and more city folk who don't hunt, have never hunted, and will not try to hunt. It's SO important to get kids involved! I'm taking my 5 year old girl out in my gun tower this weekend to watch deer just for that reason. IMO, trapping will be the next thing on their agenda.

I hope that when the antis go further along their agenda, the "I told You so's" from the hunters make sense to the non hunters. I don't know that it will but I hope so.
I wore an orange cap to the polls to make sure I wore a visible symbol of my being a hunter. I expected the line at the poll to be filled with guys in orange hats or camo jackets. I didn't see a single visible display by another hunter. Sort of sad.

We sure did lose something we had. We passed the law and had the season. Now the gates are opened. Game management should never be left up to an ignorant public that can be swayed by misleading commercials. This was voted on by emotion and nothing else!

Therein lies the issue. All things political in this country are initially decided by the public. We are the 'ignorant public' that elect legislators and judges and vote on initiatives. The folks supporting the dove hunting ban executed their plan much better. You can argue that the political process has been dumbed down with attack ads and inflamed rhetoric but it appears to work and will be used again.
It would appear that the organizations supporting hunting rights could use an overhaul - and better support from the hunting public.

I had my camo pants on. I just happened to be wearing them though. I'm sure there were more hunters that weren't dressed like a hunter in the room though.

I considered renting a trailer sign that would have said...
Let the DNR manage doves, not politicians.
VOTE YES ON 3!
Next time I will. I was too busy bowhunting to worry about it. And to tell you the truth, I didn't think we would lose.

I am glad proposal 1 passed, but I don't think it was all good. While I am happy that now licence fees will be earmarked for the DNR, I think that down the road this may exclude the DNR from more and more general funds, until all they have is licence funds. Next comes reduced services, next comes increased licence fees, and then comes more hatred between the paying hunters and fisherman and the remaining non-paying public that benefits from natural resources.

Well said. A victory for prop 1 could very well be a lose for us. Higher fees and less money available from the gereral fund. Other segments attempting to earmark funds as well will hurt the general fund and = higher taxes as a result.
Well have to see but what we thought was good might have just unleashed pandoras box.

Maybe now that we've taken our almost never raided funds and went home, the legislature will do the same thing to us with the general funds... that the DNR raids EVERY SINGLE YEAR...
It will be wonderful... not.

I'll take that bet. All we have to do, which we've been doing a poor job in the fight, is to get signitures and start our own prop to get something added on. Say a limited wolf hunting season. All of those on here that have been bithing and moaning about it should get up and start petitions. Thus if we are doing that then the antis will have to worry about that instead of being able to focus on their own petition to ban something. Simple really. But now the real bet ya want to bet that we don't get organized enough now for 08'?
We only have ourselves to blame. Not the anti's

We owned #1, something like 91%. This makes me wonder, what the hell did all those people vote on 3? You would think it would be many of the same people.
