Lets see, rain again in the forcast for the opener. Seems like it will be a repeat of last year. Lets hope the weather changes.
What does everyone else believe, knowing those weather people are always wrong............

Zone 2 their predicting wind to 20mph and mild to heavy rain and in the upper 40s to low 50s.
Glad I got a covered blind. However won't be many people walking around so the deer movement will be limited.................
Rain/wind/high temps= depressed deer harvest opening day.

Hey guys, this is only Tuesday. The firearm opener is more than a week away. There is no way that forecast is going to hold up for over a week, don't worry, it will change, hopefully for the better. And besides, let it rain....deer don't go indoors when it's raining outside. And a day hunting in the rain beats a day working in the sunshine every time.

When it's a negative forcast it will be oh so correct.
Light to even moderate rain deer will move, heavy rain forget about it.
Any kind of rain with 10-20 mph winds will be brutal on deer movement.
Last year I sat out all day, soaked to the bone, it sucked and not seeing very many deer made it even worse..............:(
I may be glad I have a court date on Nov. 15th, I was livid when I saw the date, but this forcast brings a smile to my face :evilsmile:lol::evilsmile

Lets see, rain again in the forcast for the opener.
With the track record of weather forecasts, this is the best news towards having a dry opener. I always envied weathermen for their job security...

Let it rain. It keeps some of the crud out of the woods.

Opening day will be my 14 year old daughter's first deer hunt. I'm planning to sit with her and play guide. My main focus is for her to be comfortable and have fun. I have a double ladder stand set up for us with a wrap around blind kit. I also picked up one of the umbrella's that screw into the tree. Combined with rain gear we should be okay. Rain isn't my favorite weather to hunt in but it will be what it will be. I took a nice buck last year opening day in a pretty heavy rain.

I killed my biggest buck while it was drizzelin out. A light rain wont bother me, but i'd enjoy it more if it were to snow a little.

I remember my daughter's first deer hunt like it happened yesterday. She took a nice doe with her dad right there by her side. You and your daughter are going to create some special memories next week. I hope you all the best and give her a big hug for all of us.

I finally broke down and spent the big dollars on a quality hunting parka and pants. Let it rain! I spent last years opener under my old Army poncho and decided that was the last time for that.
I work outside all the time so I pay very close attention to the weather reports. Nothing ever holds this far out. About three days out is as dependable as it gets. Temps they get close on further out but percipitaion seems to alude them.

8 days out.....they are relying on computer models that are getting fed data on weather conditions out in Siberia!
Get real....they can get a semi good read on the temp. trends....but that's about it.
Read this: look at how much interpretation, experienced guessing, and blending of computer models goes into a forecast.
Progressive pattern with numerous strength and timing issues in the
medium range period. Biggest issues will center around probability of precipitation and
precipitation type with low pressure system moving across the
southern Great Lakes Friday into Saturday.
Surface trough sags into the area Wednesday night...weakening and
shearing out as it moves south. Best kinematic forcing remaining
north of area...but some increase in upper divergence fields at
300mb across eastern upper associated with lfq of 130kt jet
streaking into the northern lakes. Although forcing will be
present...wedge of middle level dry air on the forecast soundings
between 900-700mb will struggle to become saturated before forcing
departs. Because of this...I will put chance probability of precipitation into eastern
upper and far northern lower Wednesday night...with best chance over
Chippewa County and primarily before 06z.
A quiet day Thursday/Thursday night as northern Michigan sits on the
anticyclonic side of upper level jet energy. Problems and model
divergence begins to rear its head on Friday with the handling of
next northern stream trough and developing surface low over the Red
River valley of Texas. All of the models agree to some degree in
developing surface low over the middle Mississippi Valley and bringing
it northeast into the Ohio Valley. The GFS is the furthest north
into the cold air. The NAM and ecwmf favor a slightly slower and
further south positioning. The 12z GFS trended slightly toward the
southern solutions. I will take a European model (ecmwf)/GFS blend...trending
slightly toward the more southern solution. Precipitation may
develop as early as Friday afternoon with favorable kinematic fields
associated with coupled jets and 300mb upper divergence fields /rrq
of jet over the northern lakes and lfq of jet in the Midwest/. If
surface low slower and/or further south...Friday may end up dry and
cool. I will bring chance probability of precipitation into the area Friday
afternoon...keeping everything liquid as h10-800 mb thermal profiles
keep temperatures around +3 degc during the day.
I will not get too detailed with the precipitation form for Friday
night...given so much disagreement among model storm tracks. Cold
air should be spreading into the area as the night progresses...so
whatever precipitation is around will change to snow from northwest to
southeast. There is some potential for accumulating snow from this
event over portions of the area...especially if the surface low
tracks closer to DTX. On the other hand...a slight south or east
track of the surface low could leave much of the area dry. So there
are still lots of questions to be answered with this system.
Trend will be for gradually drier conditions on Saturday as 1026mb
surface high builds into the Great Lakes from the west. There could
be a period of light north flow lake effect snow on Saturday...but
airmass dries out quickly and should not amount to much. Low
amplitude ridging through the Great Lakes on Sunday resulting in at
least partly sunny skies but still cool temperatures. Next surface
trough approaches the Great Lakes on Monday/Monday night...bringing
another chance of rain or snow to the area.
Temperatures at or below normal Saturday through Tuesday.

I've discovered the Ameristep Outhouse blind makes a pretty nice 'tent' around a double (buddy) ladder stand. . . (and a LOT cheaper than the ready-made custom blind/wraps for them!) Just bungee-cord the bottom loops to the stand and you're pretty much set (although it does wiggle some in the winds.) A little carpet for the foot area and.......let it rain!! And it's LOTS warmer than sitting up there without one.
Good luck to all for the opener ... and be safe on the slippery ladders if it's raining.

News 8 just said that we'll stay dry for the opener with any rain comming in after dark and turning to snow. Looks like we caught a break.
