I voted yes today on Prop. 3.

My question is if the outcome is what the polls are saying it will be, i.e. Prop 3 is defeated, what do you all think will happen next? I've heard a lot of talk that this will embolden the anti's and pave the way for further attacks on hunting rights. I tend to agree with this, but what do you guys think?

If there are to be more attacks on hunting rights, what do you forsee as the next battlefront?

Banning leg hold traps, bowhunting, bear hunting with hounds, take your pick.

TRAPPING!!!! The HSUS is already prepping the way for this to happen! If we loose today, I will almost guarantee, by the cue's I am seeing, for them to take this step! Why else would you be broadcasting anti-trapping commercials during the tiger games???? I doubt it's because they have so much money and just wanted to wasted it on nothing!!!
If we loose today, this will prove that sound game management/Facts means nothing and that the HSUS can prey on the ignorance of MI SPortspeople and the rest of the population. The majority of the people of this state do not understand the aspects of trapping nor are they willing to try and educate themselves about trapping............Again, another area that the HSUS can manipulate us with lies and half-truths to push forward their agenda! The battle has just begun......hope your ready for another round in two years!

Trapping!!!!!!!!

The writing is already on the walls with Tournament fish not far behind it.

It’s way pass time that Michigan Sportsmen put all of their bickering behind them and unit as one strong force to rid us of these outside forces. I just hope this is a wake up call for all of us.

I agree, trapping will be the next fight and it will be within the next two years. A win here, for the anti's, will mean Michigan will be a focus state for all the monies and activists around the country to come in and force there agenda. It could be a very sad day indeed.

Even though I live in Ohio now. I called all my friends last night who are not hunters. Of the 30-40 phone calls I have made, they were all voting against dove hunting. Here is why, they stated they saw a commercial with a couple hunters saying to vote NO!!!!!. Were there any TV spots to vote YES? Needless to say, I managed to do some educating. They were shocked at how they had been bamboozled. about 75% will now be voting for. But, I know there are thousands with the same belief.

Trapping will continue to be a strong target. It will be several years down the road though. Probably about 4 to 6 because they want the voters to forget about this episode.

There were a lot of public comments about the antis targeting hunting, etc. Best for the HSUS and other animal zealots to let the public forget that we were right.

In the back of my mind I think that there is a whole lot more going on with this than we have seen so far.

I have yet to see a TV ad supporting dove hunting. Do the math. The majority of the "sheeple" in this state get their instructions/marching orders from the idiot box. I too could offer even more insight, but I will keep it to myself and off of a public forum.

Sportsmen will have no one to blame but ourselves!

I took care of m y vote this morning.. I did hear a commerical on TV this morning for being against PROP 3..

I also heard on the radio on the way into work that the projections are a 3 to 1 defeat of prop 3.. Pretty disheartening...

Trapping will be next.

But, if you go to HSUS.org you'll see they're already getting their ducks in a row to go after bowhunting and hunting with dogs.

I am hoping I for a good end result. I wonder if there is a back end way to may doves legal game even if it gets voted down? Perhaps that why we were not seeing so much.

Good luck guys and get Jenny out of there along with all the other liberals! I hate to say it, but sometimes you have to vote against the Union if they are endorsing a DEMogog.

So the point of posting was ... ?

I see leg holds or bow fishing as being next. You've got a number of people who are either scared of traps because they just aren't familar with them, not to mention many people aren't to excited by the idea of people shooting fish simply to fertilize the garden (though some really enjoy eating rough fish).

I thought I heard that they are expecting less then 45% voter turn out this year. So hopefully those that answered the polling questions against dove hunting stay home.

I have pushed for a number of people to vote pro- dove hunting. One person even told me he has hunted only once in his life and that was with his dad, down south, after those doves when he was little. He has good memories of it and is for it here in Michigan.

Even though I will never, ever hunt doves, I voted to allow a dove season in Michigan. This cancels my mothers no vote - oh well. There is sooooo much opposition to this by non-hunters I don't believe it has a ghost of a chance which is too bad. Now, my mother is not against hunting by any stretch but that one TV ad got to her - the one with the guy with the unshaven face wearing a plaid shirt who says he's a hunter against killing doves. Can't remember what the woman even said in that commercial. We can hope it passes anyway but there are way too many non-hunters to defeat it. Good luck!

Maybe, if funding had allowed, we should have responded with an ad that had someone in it saying " I'm a vegan and I support a YES vote on proposal 3 "

Unfortunately, you are wrong. There will be an anti-hunting proposal every 2 years now that the "sound science" management apparently means nothing. Show Michigan voters a floppy beaver in a leg hold and all %$&# will break loose.

Here is what is next on the agenda

Trappers

Hunting dogs

etc

"As a matter of principle, The HSUS opposes the hunting (http://www.hsus.org/wildlife/issues_facing_wildlife/hunting/) of any living creature for fun, trophy (http://www.hsus.org/wildlife/issues_facing_wildlife/hunting/trophy_hunting/), or sport because of the animal trauma, suffering, and death that result. A humane society should not condone the killing of any sentient creature in the name of sport. As a practical matter, The HSUS actively seeks to eliminate the most inhumane and unfair sport-hunting practices, such as the use of body-gripping traps (http://www.hsus.org/wildlife/fur_and_trapping/trapping_the_inside_story/), baiting (http://www.hsus.org/wildlife/issues_facing_wildlife/hunting/the_last_supper_bear_baiting_on_federal_lands_in_t he_united_states.html), use of dogs, pigeon shoots, stocking of animals for shooting (http://www.hsus.org/wildlife/issues_facing_wildlife/hunting/canned_hunts/), and fee-hunting (http://www.hsus.org/wildlife/issues_facing_wildlife/hunting/canned_hunts/) on enclosed properties"

For those who think that this is only about doves you haven't done your homework.

This will be the never ending cycle.

1. eliminate dove hunting
2. then eliminate deer hunting
3. deer population skyrocket
4. Car deer accidents and deaths all time high
5. Introduce more wolves and Cougers to help control deer population
5. Deer population goes down
6. Wolve and couger population high people afraid to go outside affraid of attacks
7. Start up hunting again for wolves and cougers.

You neve know what will happen, who thought we would have a relaxed CCW permitting system in the state?

I tell ya what guys since we dont have the money to throw up on the tv screen like Peta does how can we have a fair chance at all, they throw lies around out to the general public by way of the idiot box and they will continue to win on issues like Prop 3..

Some how or another we need to get the people of Michigan on the same page but that can and will be hard to do.. I will continue to fight along with the rest of ya, we will have to get better organized to keep these people out of our state but I do promise one thing tho, I will continue to hunt and fish no matter what peta does and you can take that to the bank.. I only fish, I do not hunt, not that I think there is anything wrong with hunting. I actually am quite interested in Bow hunting ( you can fish this way also :D ), but I don't have the time. I don't have nearly enough time to fish let alone throw in hunting.

The point is, I support ALL outdoor sports... fishing, hunting, trapping, camping, ORVing, etc. excluding jet-ski's ;) ! Steve is right, we need to band together as "Outdoors People" and fight for our right to utilize the great outdoors. I am amazed at times about the bickering that goes on here between people that are doing basically the same thing?!!

We need to come together on all fronts, to effectively deal with the anti's!! They have more money and exposure than we do, which will severely hurt ALL of our preferred outdoor activities!!

Shimmelfinny

This will encourage the anti's to target the lesser known activities like Using hounds, and trapping untill pretty soon it is bow hunting, and Walleye.

It is a National group of lobbiests vs. the Sports people in a single state. It is tough to fight, if we can not stick together on on every issue regarless of how it impacts us, we'll never win.

I voted, My wife voted, My Dad, Cousins, Swayed my Mom's vote. Changed as many co-workers as possible as did my wife. I tried my best, I hope it is good enough.
