During my years of wirelining for walleye's I would occasionly run a rapala into the bottom and bust the lip off. This would also happen to a lot of other guys too. What we would do is put all our lures together and send them back to the Rapala people, who in turn would send us back repaired lures. Repaired or new made no difference to us, we were happy to get our lures back. I was wondering if this is still a Rapala practice. If so,hooooray for them, if not, oh well.

I'm almost positive there was a thread on this earlier this year in the detroit river forum. I'm sure if you typed it into the search you could find it.

Last I heard the woman who answered the phone at customer service retired and they do not replace the lures nor do they sell loose lips anymore.
Glad I bought 3 dozen lips a few years back. ;)

Seems to me that somebody who knows how to work with plastics or plexiglass could cut Rapala lips. There used to be someone who did this back many, many years ago.

I tried to replace a busted lip. Took forever just to get the proper form using ordinary garrage tools. Took it to the lake for some experimentation. It worked sorta. Not much wiggle. Got to wait until the walleyes are jumping in the boat, put it on and see if they will hit it. Man ,at almost five bucks each it's a real bummer to hold these lures in your hand and know they are useless.

All we need is some garage woodworker who can cut out the lips. Cut a bunch at one time and everyone pitches in some money for his/her time.

Past experience shows that putting in the new lips does not always work. Sometimes the action is way off.
