Well I talked my fiance Amy into coming out with me today to do some scouting and check a few sets along the way. Well we ended up with a good day. Two blanket beaver and a nice male mink. I also have fisher and marten hitting my baits already or should I say where I threw out some carcasses. A big fisher and a good sized marten there were tracks everywhere in the snow! Had a great day with Amy and my two labs. Here are some pics! First beaver taken in an MB750 in a scent mound set, mink was taken in a pocket set, and the last beaver was taken in a 280 on the bottom side of this old flooded beaver dam. Enjoy!

More great catches and pics!
How long does it take you to skin large beaver like those, beav in the field? Just curious. Seems like a very smart way to go...and you get to pre-bait for your fisher and marten, at the same time. Cant beat that! :D

6-8 minutes depending upon temperatures if it is cold I have to stop to warm my hands up for awhile. I just rough skin them out in the woods so it is fast.

great job OT!!
looks like some beautiful country up there. It's great that you got your girlfriend to go with you. Mine says I'm crazy if I think she should get up at 5-6 am to go and check the line with me. It's great to see you having so much success already this year. I cant wait to see the marten and fisher pics!

Yeah me too! Maybe I will post last years marten/fisher pics that I took to get people pumped up for the season here in 25 days, but who is counting?!! Certainly not me!! On another note the beaver I am taking are nuisance areas where they all have to go and I have them almost thinned out now so my beaver trapping will soon be over!

well thats good that you are getting rid of the problem beaver. I really cant wait until freeze up I want to catch some beavers under the ice. I know that its more work but i want to see how far I have come, I only caught one under the ice last year.

Mike,
You need any tips on under ice trapping beaver just let me know I have done a lot of snaring and 330's under the ice. That is my favorite way to take beaver actually. It is more work, but when you get good at it you will catch more beaver IMO! I don't have areas that freeze solid enough up here for me to do it! I wish I did.
