Fellow Fishers, We are planning a trip to the river this weekend handlining for walleyes and would also like to try for perch. Can anyone please tell us the best areas for perch and what they are using for bait this time of year. We will traveling 140 miles one way and would like to take some fish home. We will be using the ramp at Erie Metropark. Any help would be deeply appreciated. Thanks.

Go out from the metro park. Around the island in front of the park to the south. Make a WIDE turn aound the island if you want to keep your prop. Serveral hundred yrds.Head north east to Sugar Island hope you have a map. You will see a crossdyke jutting out from the livingston channel. There is a cut between sugar island and the end of the dyke. Go north through the cut to the first Island. The powder house. Between the powder house and the hole in the wall. (its an opening into the shipping channel ) The hole in the wall will be to your east. Cant miss it. If they are still in the river they will be there. Got a boat load 4 weeks ago there but havent been out since. If that fails try 6-8 feet of water south of sugar island where the current breaks south of the island. Just use the pearch minnows the bait store sells across from the metro park. If they dont take those they aint biting. Stay warm!
