I was wondering if anyone knows what happened to Noel? I heard something about a scandel once but never got the full story. I sure did like his video's.

I believe the scandel was: he shot a deer in one state and registered it as being shot in another. I brought a pair of his rattling horns, years ago at the Lansing Deer Show, I also had one of his videos.

Noel Feather was busted. It was discovered on his videos. He lost all publication rights of any video in the making and all videos prior to a certain date were pulled from the shelves.

Noel shot a deer in the shipping pen of a game ranch
in MO. The ranch asked Noel if they should release it
so he could "hunt" it, he said no, it was too cold.
This was NO run-of-the-mill game farm buck, it was in
the 160's B&C. That was legal. Where he screwed up
was, he hauled it to another state to register it as a
late season bow kill. They tired to get Federal
charges as he crossed a state line, but all they ever
got him on was illegal tagging & registring of the
deer in the state I think it was IL, but I could be
wrong. The fine was minor, like 2K, compared to the
thousands of dollars he lost in business (I still have
one of his tapes)and having his name become a laughing
stock.

I was working a sport show a fews years back and the guy right next to us was a guide/outfitter from Colorado. I don't remember how it came up but he happened to be a very good friend of old Noel. He even had recent pics of the two of them killing everything they could on the African plains. Anyways he claimed that Noel did shoot a good buck in a Game ranch and was bringing it home. But it was the game ranches fault for not giving him the transport tags. Well of course he gets stopped without the proper tags for transport and they then proceeded to his home where they conviscated pretty much everything. Well according to this guy, Noel could of faught it in court and won but after his name and picture were plastered all over the major hunting publications with a bunch of false accusations about him it wasn't worth it. Something about to much $$$ as well to fight all the slander against him so they just cut their losses. Anyways that was the story from a close friend of old Noel....

For the life of me I don't understand why anybody would buy videos or other products from Noel Feather and others like him. Many unscrupulous video producers are committing fraud on hunters that buy their junk. By filming on game farms and by otherwise duping the public into thinking that the animals were actually hunted by fair chase, they are indeed fraudulent. The Noel Feathers of the world give honest hunting video producers a bad name. Videos from Drury Outdoors are the only ones I buy these days. I know both Terry and Mark Drury and their videos feature real hunts in the wild. They are the best ones made.
Noel is a great hunter and was trying to scratch out a meager living.
Who the heck is Noel Feather???

Prior to the deer-video wave, another name....from 30years ago....that got caught up in a 'deer scandal' was Roger Rothaar.
RR was a real-deal big-buck guy from Ohio who established his reputation through a series of articles in the newly created 'Bowhunter' magazine. He may even have published a book.
That magazine had a big impact on pushing forward the bowhunting phenomena and some of it's editors and featured writers developed loyal followings.
I no longer recall the details of Rothaar's transgression.....maybe an untagged animal?? .....but after that incident became known he no longer showed up in the page of the mag ...if I recall properly.
He did continue...and perhaps still does....marketing his "Snuffer' series of broadheads.

Whatever happened to Dan Fitzgerald?
He is still around and has his show, I never was a fan, but to each his own.
Whatever happened to Mitch Rompola?
He's still killing bucks;)
Remember Don Lewis?
The number of sleezebals involved in the "business" end of hunting is staggering, past and present.

Whit, I believe he also surrendered several other animals that were killed in other states. Do you know if he got those back or not? Were there charges on those?
And yes, the deer was shot in Missouri and he was taking it to Illinois.

He's still killing bucks;) Dan Fitzgerald now hunts with his son Guy. They call themselves Team Fitzgerald. They have a website and hinting show on one of the channels. First hunting show that I've ever heard that truly pushes eating the meat other tha Nugent. As far as Rompola goes, He was a weirdo recluse. Why tell everyone you shot a world record then not have it scored? Smells fishy to this day.

Because if it ended up not being a world record you'd look foolish.;)

 Sorry for the typo:lol: Noel was the first person I ever saw promote rattling antlers in video. His hunting books are legendary they have the most successful techniques that the most famous hunters use today? How's that??????????
Also not to mention he made Dan F a house hold name in the world of bowhunting.;)

I have a small collection of old Dan Fitzgerald VHS. Back in the day his videos were very entertaining, he may have invented the broadhead through a 50 gal drum test. I especially enjoyed how he verbally ran down anti's, before all this politically correct B.S. of today.
I thought Noel F. was busted shooting a big deer or elk on national park land after a Game Warden recognized the terrain(landmarks) in one of videos.

I thought that it was a transportation issue, but I wish someone would reproduce his grunt call. It was an inhale call that never froze up and sounded great, I have never had a call that worked as well on deer, and then I was cleaning and messed up the reed. Wish I had it back. If anyone knows Dan, I bet he would know what Noel is doing now.

Yeah me too. I liked the one he shot a rat.
Noel accidently tried to tag a buck in one state then checked it another one. Here is breaking news HE IS NOT THE ONLY BIG TIME HUNTER TO DO THIS.

I have heard of Noel's scandel and some other "big" name hunters who have done some illegal things and have gotten caught. I don't know the guys name but was told a story of how this guy was known for killing big elk, he had a video series, endorsments, etc. Well a CO was watching one of the vids and started to notice that alot of the areas that this guy was killing elk at looked familiar. After investigating a bit it turns out that the guy was hunting in Yellowstone National Park. After being accused of hunting in Yellowstone the hunter addmitted that he was hunting elk in Yellowstone.
The friend of mine who told me that story is a semi pro 3d shooter and has spent sometime with people who are in the hunting industry (in fact his wife also shoots and is sponsered by Mossy Oak). He has told me these guys who become well known in the hunting world are under alot of pressure to produce trophy animals year after year. Sometimes this pressure leads to animals not being 100% legal.
I will find out the name of the elk hunter and post it when I get back from hunting this weekend.

Captain thanks for the link that was a good video. What ever the guy did a lot of hunters could learn a lot just from watching this video. I didnt see a bunch of hugging and kissing, just a couple of guys real excited about shooting a nice buck and following a good blood trail.

Dan has his history as well.
He caught a big bass on a Florida trip. Brought it back to Michigan and tried to enter it as the Michigan state record. The DNR took scale samples to see if it was a Michigan fish. They returned a second time for another sample to confirm their initial findings. However the bass was reported (by Dan) stolen before they got there the second time.
They then started checking into his record book bucks. X-rays found some of the skulls split to make them big enough for book scores. He had his record book bucks taken out of the record.
He used to get caught coming and going into the huge private deer hunting clubs near his cabin. Hard to find him in there as he is very good with the camo. They would post up and watch him coming and going. The neighbors dont think too highly of him.
Igrew up living right by him and stange as it is found out later he had/has a camp right near mine up in the TB zone/club lands near Hillman/Atlanta.
I dont watch him on Video nor will I ever buy a product from him.

Is there any documentation on these events? I am doing some research for a project and need it for references.

He is from Tecumseh Michigan. The local paper would have had something. Check with the record keepers of Michigan. They took down his record book bucks that year.
