This is a discussion on another board. it sounds like no shiners can be imported to the U.S from Canada. :banghead3

i would think that there are american bait dealers where you can get emeralds from. if not, you could always get your own.

Will start trapping my own minnows again.

I guess I don't see how stopping the transfer of various species is gonna help if they all live in the same water system anyway? Certainly never gonna trap every shiner that has this disease.

Well, if Congress just passes a law that requires all of the Canadian fish to get passports or secure ID cards, then we can keep them all on the Canadian side of the lake, and the problem will be fixed!

Can I ask a stupid question? I see Round Goby on the list. Isn't it already illegal to transport live gobies? I believe that I read in last year's DNR fishing guide that you are to dispose of them when you catch them.

maybe not in all states.....

and I believe the roll of this is to help prevent spread.... not prevent it in lakes that its already occuring....

Sounds like the State should be banning the transport of fish between bodies of water, rather than the feds stepping in, ham-fisted, as usual.

Unfortunately, as we have seen with the Ash Borer, Zebra Mussels, Quaggas, etc., people are still going to do what they are going to do, regardless.

Yea...and imagine how bad its gonna get when those asian carp get into our system since the feds did'nt approve the funds for the electric fence at Chicago......I'm afraid we won't even have any value to our waterfront property due to the fear of getting hit in the face by a 15 lb carp while going on a fishing trip. On the other hand.....it might put and end to the 60 mph jet ski type stuff cause if would knock them off their boats. However.....at that speed the fish might only be jumping in their wakes. Hey....maybe the future for us fishermen is in using 60 mph jet sleds to use for fishing....they could provide a good muskie trolling speed.
