With today's winds I was cleaning out the garage today. The trolling rods were sitting in the corner. As I pondered whether to put them away for the season, I noticed the wind had subsided a little. Ahh, what the heck, one more trolling run on Lake Charlevoix for the season, for one more walleye.
I headed for deep water to troll for walleyes, but after 1/2 an hour of not marking much, I headed in to the south arm. Set up in 30 feet of water with deep diving cranks. For an hour I absolutely couldn't keep two lines in the water for 5 minutes. The smallmouth were on fire. I landed 8 between four and 6 pounds. I finally decided to take a pic of the last one (not one of the bigger ones).

I've always been amazed at how stereotypical fish are in the way they fight. Many times you can id species just by the way they are fighting. Normally acrobatic, I didn't have even one of these smallmouth jump or even break the surface. They fought just like big walleye. So each time I've got a fish on, I'm thinking...this one's a walleye. I'm sure there were some walleye around, but they probably never got a chance.
Then darkness fell I hoped for at least one walleye. Bamm...fish on!!!!!
Brought it in and sure appeared to be a walleye.....but no, a laker. In 28 fow?

All fish were released and came on reef runners. Black prism and blueberry muffin.
Over 17,000 acres of water and I think I was the only boat on the lake.
Well, that about wraps it up for the year for me. With today's time change, it's gonna be tough to get out much. I hope to get back out next weekend and then it's time to put the boat away. See you in the ice fishing forum and see you out on the ice!
