Fished from 8:30 to 3:00 an with limited success ended with 4 fish, 2 in the 2 pound range, 1 in the 4 pound range, and this nice 8 pounder. We got the fish on a Glass Minnow HJ. and a Purple Sunfire HJ.

Around 50 degrees is the the magic number.:) Dangit - I forgot my thermometer last nite - but judging by the slow leak in my waders.....
:yikes:
I'd say you have a point there Ifish4......

We got the fish trolling. I like casting but, when the fish aren't heavy in the lake you can cover more water trolling.
We seem to have our best luck when the water temp is below 45 deg.

Tim Stein joined my cousin and me Friday night for 5.5 hours of fishing and freezing. The wind and temps where brutal. we did manage 4 nice Walleye in the 3-4 pound range. we also got 1 under sized one and Tim got a Pike. Tim got one Walleye casting, the rest came trolling. Clown Roage, Glass Minnow HJ., and ghost X Rap did the damage.

I dont mean to jump in on this post with a question but can someone give me a quick run down or trolling depth chart on these HJ's. For example 60 ft back to get it down 20 ft. Planner no planner, weight or no weight. I bought some HJ 12's -14's (assorted) and really havent any experience with these baits (trolling in general). I do see the depth on the box but I guess not enough info for me. I plan to go on a fishing trip w/ the in-laws tommorrow and dont wanna be totally clue less :help: . THNX in advance.

HJ 12's & 14's run identical depths , so less for you to remember (10's slightly shallower)!
FT DWN:
5 =26FTBAC
6 =40FTBAC
7 =60FTBAC
8 =90FTBAC
The trolling guide is only $30 and there's PAGES on weights/depth changes , get one soon , it's well worth the cost.

The one fish we got casting was on the X Rap.
When we troll I run the breaks at 10-12 feet and let the lures back 55-65 feet w/ one or two split shot.
here's one that now hangs above my fire place from last year. She tipped the scale at 12 pounds 10 oz.

Still a little slow yet, but great to be out. We had a blast in Ken's boat and plenty of laughter and some action to keep us warm. Water was 43 degrees and very clear. Most boats were catching something and guys were spread out all over. Hoping to try again this week with the warmer nights. First walleye on the X rap, hard to put down the jerks, caught plenty of bass, etc, but first eye. Tasted yummy for dinner last night, sure was nice to have some fresh walleye.:corkysm55

Is that for super braid or mono?

That dive curve is for 10# diameter mono. You'll get deeper with superlines.

I was teaching a youngster of age 17 the finer points of X-Rappin' (y0 y0 y0!)
and he got one & lost one nice one - I asked him :
Did they CRUSH it on the strike?
He said "Heck yeah - it scared the cr@p outta me & I almost lost the pole!"
:lol:
It's gunna get better!

Its all about the x-rap jerk. However in my case its usually the jerk on the other end of the pole.
