View Full Version : Bait Puck
Has any one tried the bait pucks that strikemaster has out there? I was on their web site getting a form for a blade exchange and saw them.
I had my bait freeze and the tops blow away and the little containers crushed ( my wife loves to find the spikes in the basement after they crawl out of my pocket) Looking for ideas for the coming season for keeping bait.

Isaw them too. They look like a good idea. My wife loves the same thing! Anything I think would be better than those little plastic cases.:irked: :bonk:

i have a few of the bait pucks (smaller size). I like em for grubs, mousies, and spikes. they have a larger size for leeches and the like, or a crapload of bait, but I haven't used them yet. the bait doesn't freeze up nearly as much, easy to open, and like you said, it doesn't get crushed in your pocket and you end up with grub-pocket.

If you do anything, get a couple of these. I keep one with waxworms, one with spikes and one with ice jigs and split shot. Only thing I was concerned about was the bedding getting moist in and out of the cold so I drilled a few small holes and the waxworms lived in the puck for a couple months, no problem. Would make a dandy stocking stuffer !!! I have another bait box, won't mention name and have a lot of trouble keeping lid shut without rubber bands. The puck, lid screws on and is not crushable very easily.

I've used them for a couple of years. I like the smaller ones and I agree with drilling some small holes in the top.

Yea the thing is that the guy that actually does chew and uses them as bait cans has to be carefull not to take a pinch out of the wrong can. :dizzy:

I can't tell you how many times I've ended up with a pocket full of maggots from using Skoal cans for bait. One spring I actually had dead moths in my pockets as the mousies had lived long enough to change. I have used film containers for years and the top at least stays on but I switched to the pucks last year and love them. My wife doesn't holler as much with them int refrigerator either !
Thanks for the information and it appears thumbs up!!! I'll have to start looking - ice is not that far away. Missed December last year and that was the only ice - at least on St Clair . I am not one for 1 to 2 inches.

I have couple of the smaller ones, well made it would take a good deal of pressure to crush one of these. I still prefer the chew cans, a green one for spikes, a red one for mousies, and a yellow one for wax worms when I pull a can out of my pocket I always know what I have.

Yeah, my first thought when I saw the bait pucks in Cabelas was why would someone want to pay $7 for an empty chew canister with a bit of styrofoam. But then I saw that cool strikemaster logo and *almost* bought one. :)
A lot of bait shops sell their waxies in empty chew tins.

Another vote for bait pucks. I just drew a big "S" on the one with spikes.
