I just got a chance to buy a 2005 outback for $500 and was wondering what you guys think of this bow? I have always shot onieda, but am open to a change. I have always said I wasn't going to jump on the mathews bandwagon, but I figured this deal was too good to pass up

Awesome bow for five bills! This may not be a crowd favorite but I actually like my Outback better than my Swithcback. Have you shot the bow yet? Be sure you do before you buy it. Bows are never one size fits all!

Unless its new. I would hold off. YOu can pick up a 05 switchback for about that.

I guess I assumed it was set up with sights and rest since it was used. Whats included?

No offense to anyone, but before you buy a used Mathews, get the serial number off it and call Mathews to see if it was marked stolen. I've heard of it happening a lot in the past 2 years. Plus, make sure that the limbs aren't cracked or anything because the warranty is voided if you're not the original owner. Be really careful when buying a used bow at high dollar.

the origional owner is a member of another forum I belong to and also from michigan. I really don't care for the switchback. I do like the looks of the outback. as far as fitting me, I have a dad that was co-owner of Hunter's Shack in Flint and thier primary bow repair man. I'm by no means a green archer, I'm starting my 31st year shooting a bow, I killed my first carp when I was still in diapers, and shot rabbits and squirrels long before I took a deer. I can assemble an onieda from a box of parts to a functional, tuned piece of art within an hour or so, and I know my way around wheel and cam bows intimately, but...thank you for the advice. If I were green, it would be useful info. as for the bow, it was only shot one summer, and the owner was in a car accident and can't shoot anymore. it's in like new condition, and comes with a one piece mathews quiver and drop zone elite rest (which i'll sell) I primarily want to know what guys think of the outback, from they're experience shooting one, I'm not looking for opinions, or get something else comments. thank you.

sorry to rain on your day, but 99% or what you'll get on here are opinions. not that that is a bad thing because opinions are how we gather information on things we don't know anything about.

Id say its a good deal with the quiver and rest. Nice bow, a little on the slow side, but the outback is pretty smooth. Holds the resale well. Hunters shack? Im from flint, but not at all familiar with this place.

I would wait, $500 is only $100 less than it cost new...

Save the extra $100 and get an 07 model!

That and the 4 page ads that are in every hunting mag you open.

If you are talking world championships that would be hoyt.

If you want to limit it to us 3d and field championships, that would be mathews.

If you are talking about spots, well thats probably martin.

I'm so sick of hearing this. This is a cop out just because "your" preferred company doesn't thnk advertising is needed. Plus, the company that sells the most bows, has enough excess money to use for advertising!;) I used to shoot a PSE and I never complained about any ads.

Why turn this into a bow battle.....AGAIN? He's just wondering if it's a good deal. And by the way, shooters make champions, not the bows they shoot.

So far as I can tell there's only one person getting heated about it all.

Let's keep it on topic guys,

Back to the original question...I think it's a good buy. The quiver alone is worth 100 and if you sell the rest you can take a little off the top end as well. I think you'll like it if you're not looking for blazing speed.

I don't really care about the speed, it's not speed that kills animals, it's penetration which is mass weight times velocity=penetration. I shoot clean through most whitetails now with my older 90's onieda Aeroforce x80 shooting 285 fps i think i can handle something in the 295 fps range. as far as the "bandwagon" goes, if you say the name mathews enough, people will recognize it...if you put it in every hunting mag out there and people see it, they will recognize it. it's a classic advertizing strategy, and it's a smart way to make your product a household name. the bandwagon comes in as thus...to me, it takes more than a name to sell me. and since I have never owned one, i thought i'd come to you guys, to see what you (owners) think of this bow.

All Mathews bows are good bows. I've never heard of anyone buying one because they read an advertisement and felt misled.

Go to a store and shoot one, who cares what everyone else thinks of theirbow.

i don't own a mathew's but i've shot plenty of them including the '05 outback, awesome bow! but i think you'd be better off buying a new one because they're only about 100 more and you have the warranty which can come in handy sometimes.
just my .02 cents
goodluck on your decision
