Anyone goin' to Tip-Up Town this year?

i made my tip-up town reservations yesterday for the 2nd weekend (of the 2 weekends). i guess that some of the motels/cottages are already getting lots of reservations. i have to rent a place because unfortunately i don't have a place of my own or anyone to stay with. i was just wondering if anyone plans on goin' to tip-up town this january? i've gone the last 2 years and it is a really gooooooood time! :D :evilsmile :)

Yup. Every year. Fishing usually sucks, but it's fun to watch people crash their stuff.

Nothing better than sitting on a bucket watching tip ups, drinking a beer, watching a sled burn down....... Even better when it's not yours....;)

You should consider putting on a perch milking clinic while you're up there, you might might some cash.

Oh yeah, god willing we'll there again this year. I've been going for well over twenty years now. Look for me at the "Most Badges" contest. I've got them all except the first three which are the old wooden ones.

FG, I'm pleasantly suprized to hear you had to make reservations so early. The last few years have been kinda slow and you could show up on a whim and be able to find a place to stay pretty easily. I do remember years ago, you made your reservations and left a deposit for the next year or you might be outa luck! We've gotta cottage now so thats not an issue anylonger.

Maybe we can hold a M-S.com Meet & Greet at TUT? :yikes:

I will hopefully be going both weekends (although I usually just stay at Lake James and don't venture onto Houghton Lake too often). First weekend for sure, but the second weekend all my buddies will be in St. Louis for the wings game, so that's up in the air for me. I have been going just about every year for the last 24 years (as I am only 24 but my grandparents live up there and my uncle owns a house there as well). But I'm glad to say there's only been 2 years that I remember not going. This year will be the best year for me though because I am going to win the best beard contest (well, I hope). Never seen the contest so I don't know how others beards are, but I've had mine going for 3 months and there's still 3 more months to grow. I have been getting a lot of comments lately, so I guess that's a good thing, although the ladies don't seem to really like it at all.
It is just a blast to get out there and sit on my bucket all day and show all my buddies how to fish. Hopefully this year will be just as good as last year for us.

Never been up for for ice fishing or tip-up town, Planning on making a trip this year. getting gear ready last week. Can anyone tell me the weekends that they hold tip-up town, and a good place to rent a power auger? Hope to meet some M-S people there.

i used to love going but its just to much of a zoo to enjoy the fishin. i get it if your up for a good time. but ive seen to many ice shanties t-boned and seen one guy die when his snowmobile was t-boned by another sledder.. thats the last time i went.

Last time I went I had 2 tip ups squashed by a snowmobile and later that same day I was run over by a snowmobile and ended up with a twisted ankle.

No thanks too much booze and stupidness for me.........I like peace and solitude too much.

Going up this weekend to finish up on the leaves...and bring the 4-wheeler and snowmobile up!!I was just there last Friday & Saturday AM doing the leafs, putting away the lawn furniture, stocking the wood racks, etc. Weather on Saturday stunk, went on up to our club in Alpena Saturday/Sunday, we had a "Kids Camp", all the fathers brought there little ones for a weekend in the woods. Had a ball!

Not sure, I may try to get up again the weekend before the rifle opener, I'll be in Alpena for the clubs "prep" weekend. :D

I think I will just get drunk and fish in my bathtub that weekend. I will save some money on gas and catch about the same amount of fish as those that will be up there.

Never had a problem catching fish at Houghton Lake, even during TUT. Although the majority are 20-30" pike and dink perch/gills, still fun when you can have 20-30 flags a day between 3 guys.:)

I hope nobody shows up. we dont need that many drunks around here, we have enough already.

I do have to say though that last year was a better festival than the past 10 years or so. they are finally making an effort to make it a family fishing festival like it used to be back in the old days.
