Hey guys I have a quick question for you. Going out hunting this weekend and was thinking about throwing out a turkey decoy. This time of year would i be better to put out 1,2 or 3 decoys and should they be a jake and hens or just jake or just hens? Also do any of you think this would spook any deer that may wander in front of me?
Thanks in advance......seips

I dont turkey hunt in the fall but have seen deer come into turkey calling and decoys. I used my turkey call this morning and 2 does came in to investigate. I want to use the decoys too one of these days.

I think it puts them at ease since they know turkeys are more skitish then they are.

I once shot a big buck on state land that was trailing behind some turkeys. Im always amazed how smart they are.

If I was going to put turkey deeks out for deer, they would all be the same sex and as many as I had. Never done it , but the theory seems logical. Had twenty hens come through last week and the deer came along right behind them( unfortunately no big buck).

i had 15 jakes come into my bait...figures...lol...2 spikes followed them down they didnt share the same close space but when the turkies left so did the 2 little bucks

it was so funny watching the turkey come in...they were like drug dealers on the street corner..a few would go down to eat , the rest were back to back looking around...lol...neat thing to see

I guess I should have stated that I also have a turkey tag so if a turkey or a deer come in I will shoot. was just wondering if the dekes would scare any deer off? And if the dekes could or would have a positive effect on the turkey?

I think that you're safe with a decoy deployed. Give it a try for a sit or two and let us know how it goes. Be cool to get a double of a deer and a turkey!
