Well I met up with Catherine and Her dog Sunday afternoon and we walked out in the swamp and I was so embarrassed, before I tell the entire story let me tell you I am out in BFE way out in the the cedar swamp, we could not find my tree, but we did find where my deer was last sceen going into the cat tails so that was good. While looking for my tree stand I sunk ball deep in muck and was stuck for a long time until my party found me. Once we gave up looking for the tree we brought the dog to the last spot I saw the deer, he immediately picked up scent and found the deer 30 yards from where I was standing. Truth be told we probably would have found the deer but I now have faith in the dog. It was a very large DOE, probably 150lbs field dressed easily.

Thanks for all you support and helping me get through work Sunday

So your saying there's a market for a tree standing finding dog? I'll have to work on that maybe earn some gas money.

good job on the deer.

Tell us you have video or least a photo to share!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like I mentioned dogs can be invaluable in finding fatally wounded deer and a contact list of owners around the state who would do this would be highly useful.

When I couldn't find my tree stand, I think she thought I was nuts, my friends also thought I was going crazy but they saw how frustrated I was getting.

Her name is Cathering 861-0303 (pukie) is the dog

She is great though, she wanted to dig right in and help gut the deer and everything.

I'll try to get a pic up sometime. I am totally exhausted right now after cleaning deer all night.

How did you find it to hunt it?? lol

Great story with a even better ending. I thought I was the only one to do stuff like this. Dont you love hunting in swamps. I did it this morning for the first time this year. Just before I get to my stand site I turned to go around the blow down I always look for and it was of course the wrong one. In the dark its hard to tel one that fell 3 weeks ago to one that fell 1 week ago. :) It took me 1/2 hour to get back on track. Just in time to set up and see 2 does. No shots though.

We need to oraganize a commity next year to get phone numbers together for tracking dogs. Think how much buisness we could get them. :)

Marv,
Would you mind contacting her again and ask if she would like her name and phone # to be put on a list of trainers having dogs that track and recover fatally wounded deer. The list would be placed on this site........IF....we get enough interest.

I will call her again I had a great time yesterday with her. WHit what are you thinking as far as listing her on the site. What would you need or want from her. She is looking for more business so I am sure she is willing and would like any advertising she could get.

Petes new website has a listing for michigan dog contacts.
He is looking to add as many as he can. Please have her contact pete so he can get her name up. And anyone else that anyone knows about.

Pete is a active member of MS and also has a link to MS on his website. He lives in Houghton Lake but is willing to help anyone.
He offers his services for free but will take gas donations. Though it is not required. Please look at his site and lets help him get some contacts up.

That would be a good place to start. We could put the link to his site as a "sticky" in the Whitetail Forum and/or also include a list of dog owners/trackers with phone numbers in the same sticky.
