Picked up a Buck in the thumb area saturday. Only reason was because he was chasing a few does. Luckily the first one ran away and his second choice was standing in the right spot.

Everyone might have a little different opinion, but generally the last week of Oct thru the first 2 weeks of Nov. Might vary a few days depending on how far north you hunt, since it's triggered by decreasing daylight. Where we hunt it scientifically begins 10/27 and peaks on 11/10 every year.

Saw a huge buck chasing a doe down a fence row on M-21, looks like some activity is starting down here.

Impossible. It doesn't start till next week!!! It was just a coincidence that the buck was behind the doe.

I swear this comes up a few times per week every October.
The rut basically comes the same time every year! There are no "Deer Experts" out there changing the "forecast" year by year.
Yes, there may be some chasing, we are getting into the Pre-rut, but that doesn't mean that breeding will occur any earlier. Temperature, weather, pressure etc. don't really effect the rut and when it happens.
I would consider the real heat (read RUT) to start the first days of November, with the chasing starting this week.

You can say what you want but bucks are chasing does NOW!!!I do know that its not the rut but hunt the does and you might see bucks chasing them now.I have talked to many hunters and they are chasing does.If you are around a mature doe and its one of the first ones smelling good you will probably see many bucks,I would NOT wait till nov 1 for the rut!!!:corkysm55 But thats just my 2 cents worth !!!!

I agree with the fact that bucks are chasing the does right now. However, the majority of the bucks chasing right now are the 1.5 year olds. The big boys are too smart to chase before the ladies are ready. When the does start coming into heat, the big boys start making the mistakes. The 1.5 year olds make the mistakes a lot more often and chase does around before they are ready. I see many of the smaller bucks "chasing" all through the month of October. The mature bucks wait till prime time which is what I call the RUT!
