I built a sweet shanty year before last and it fished 4 guys and a heater comfortably. I used an 8'/3 1/2' peice of 1/2" ply wood for the floor, if you are going to go with 1/2" instead of 3/4 then you need some 2x4 support underneath. The the hole was 3' by 3 1/2', do you could sit 2 guys on each side on a 3 1/2 x 2 1/2' paltform, the door is located right in the middle, so you have to step over the corner of the hole to get to your spot. We used sheeted luan for the walls and ceiling with a slanted roof, 6' 6" at one side, 6' at the other. The whole inside of the shanty was painted black to minimize light in the hole. For "windows" we used the spring loaded outlet covers for a double outlet that goes outdoors, just big enough to look out and check the tip ups and they have a great rubber seal so they dont let any light or wind in. The one thing I would do diffently is make the hole just a tad smaller for width, with it being so close to the walls of the shanty some light/snow would come in ocassionally. I left a spud and a snow shovel with holes drilled in it in the shanty to clear the hole and used a 5 gal buket with a snap on lid and holes drilled in the top half to keep live bait/spearing decoys in the shanty at all times. I rarely had bait die while in the bucket, they do great in the cold water. I loved the design of the shanty, because you can see way under the guys feet who is sitting across from you and warn him when a fish is coming, no more craning your neck and wondering if there is a fish right under your feet. We used I hooks on the ceiling to attatch the decoys to, so you can sit back comfortably and jig your decoy by pulling a string. I have some pics I can post later.
Hope this helps.
