Hey guys--this may be a stupid question. I know nothing about the west side of the state (SW)except all of the smaller lakes I see on the map-but I was wondering if any of the harbors on Lake MI freeze over and if those are areas where people fish through the ice.

Hey Gmali, I know they fish for eyes and perch in the bay at Muskegon. You can contact some bait shops there for a better handle on that. I know by me, just south of the border, by Michigan City they fish thru the ice in the harbor for salmon, right by the boat docks. West of me round Lake Michigan in the harbors of Chicago they ice fish by Navy Pier for perch and do well.

All the lakes running in to Lake Michigan freeze up. Good walleye, pike and perch fishing on most. This site has a White Lake outing every year at least when the ice cooperates.
