first off i live in macomb county. my boyfriend suggested taking a weekend trip this weekend. we really don't want to go tooo far and were thinking about some place in the thumb area. i was looking at a map and i seen sleeper state park in caseville. there is a lake there called 'rush lake'. has anyone ever gone fishing there (shore fishing) at this time of year? what could i expect to catch?? do any of you know of any good shore fishing opportunites this time of year in any lakes or rivers in the thumb area? we don't want to fish in lake huron... i'm going to houghton lake in mid november but we're itching to get away this weekend (someplace within 100 miles or so). i was looking at different motels in the thumb area and seen a place called 'bay port inn' which is in bayport, mi. it is a bar, restaurant and motel. has anyone ever been there? i would really like to hear about any shore fishing opportunities in any of the rivers in the thumb area this time of year...

Try Bay Shore Marina, it's just a little north of the town of Bay Port.

Rush Lake really is not there. It just a bunch of reeds with some standing water. Sleeper is a nice park, my grandmothers cottage used to be about half mile away.

You could try some perch fishing of the peer at Caseville. This time of the year can be good.

I was up to Caseville last weekend. I fished all over Oak Point from 50 ft to 20 ft.The water at 30 feet and closer was very dirty, at 50 ft it was much cleaner. 4 hours of trying to find fish there and not one hit. We moved stright out from the Pine river in 24 ft of water. The water was not to dirty and the fish were there. We ( my two brothers and I ) fished there from 2:30 to 5 pm and ended up with 67 keepers . Nothing big 8 to 9 inches .All the males were 9" and the females were 8". About 30 throw backs also. So I would say that the fish are getting ready to move into the river soon. You just have to be there when it happens. So this weekend may be good. There are millions of minnows in the river now and the dinner bell is ringing for them.
