So, I live pretty close (within an hour) to Cabelas and for some reason keep going there for archery items.
I finally purchase some new arrows tonight to replace the 2 good carbon ones I have left (embarrassingly enough). So, after an ordeal over how to have this person behind the counter properly cut my arrows so that the shaft was the proper length (excluding the nock on the arrow since I use turbo nocks anyways) I asked if she had intentions of putting in the inserts as well, and if not I'd do them at home. She assured me that it'd be no issue for her to do it ...
A long story short, I check the height of all the arrows before I leave to make sure that they are at least matched, and they are. I get home to discover that she's gone and made one hell of a mess!!!
Is there any good way to clean excess glue off of the outsides of carbon arrows? With aluminum I'd just burn it off, but I know that won't work. Help is appreciated - I'm hoping to fix it myself so I don't have to make a trip back down there and argue about having my arrows replaced.

Wow! The same exact thing happened to me @ Cabelas. I took some gold tips over there to have them cut and they slopped glue all over the place. Sorry I can't help, but I have the same question as you.
Somebody told me mineral spirits???

ANything that will dissolve the glue chemically will damage the shaft as it's all carbon and ....glue already.
No way to get it off that I've ever seen or heard of other than sandpaper.
Hit the bargain cave for warm outerwear, they have great camo and a cool gun library...but they don't touch my archery gear.;)

We reccomend using one of the following to clean your shafts acetone, lacquer thinner, alcohol or other solutions such Bohning SSR Arrow Shaft Surface Cleaner which is environmentally safe to clean shafts.
I found this on a www.above-timberline.com (http://www.above-timberline.com) This is what they recommend to clean your arrow carbon arrow shafts before fletching your arrows. I know for fact that Lacquer thinner and acetone will definately get that glue off with no problem.

Here is some more info.
Although, use of acetone is the optimal solution for degreasing and preparing aluminum and carbon shafts. Make sure there is plenty of vevtelation when cleaning shafts.
I hope this helps you out.

I've been told it's ok (but) do not soak the carbon shaft for extended periods. I guess it will affect the carbon fibers or something. Good luck :).

Depending on how bad your arrows are and what finish you have on them, you can take a fltech stripped, or a razor and lightly brush it over the glue, it will cut down the excess glue, just be sure to take your time and not take off more than needed.

And next time....try us...we're closer!!! ;)
Try a heat gun and then wiping it down. I will use a heat gun on my inserts after I put a broadhead on to get all my blades and fletching matched on all my hunting arrows.
