Shot a small 8-point this morning. Rocky Mountain Snyper 3-blade from a Darton with 58 lbs. 15 yard shot, to my surprise, no pass-thru. And if I hadn't seen him fall 40 yards away, I may have been in for a long hard search. No exit wound, so absolutely no blood trail. Took out both lungs, and I found the broken-off arrow tip inside. May have hit a rib on the far side, but the head was loose in the body with just 4 inches of arrow, can't figure on why it didn't go thru. Oh well, got the deer. My photo is on page 6 of the gallery under 2006 Michigan bucks.

Congratulations on your buck and a nice woods scene for the picture. It sounds like the Snyper did its job, a dead deer in 40 yards is always good, especially if the arrow gets broken off before leaving the deer. You mentioned that the arrow was broken off 4" up from the broadhead so I was curious as to what you think broke it? Did you possibly hit bone (shoulder, leg) on the far side that might have stopped pass through? I wouldn't think rib alone should break an arrow off like that. Any more pictures on where you hit him?

Congrats, beautiful photo. I always have a fear of gutting a deer when I don't know where the broadhead is.

Thanks for the compliments, the photo was taken with a Canon 20d propped up on the tailgate of my truck and using the self-timer. As for the deer and broadhead, yes I think that I may have hit the far shoulder or even a rib, but like someone said, a dead deer within 40 yards is good. So the Snyper did the job alright, I just have never had one at that range not go all the way thru, after 27 bow-shot deer. First time for everything I guess. Thanks for the feedback, guys.

Where was the entrance wound?

The entrance was mid-body, 2 inches behind shoulder, downward shot, from 20 feet up in stand, deer was 15 yards away.

The 2-blade Snyper kills deer just as dead and penetrates far better. I've enjoyed great success with mine for several years now. Congrats on your buck!

Best Regards,
Byron :)

Lost 2nd buck in lifetime this week to them 3 blades, I am going to the 100 grain slick tricks, they are in the mail. I have never had a wounded animal till i went to mec and had shot 15 or so animals with fixed. Once i went to carbon and all the new crap. I am sure it aint my fault:gaga:

Hey guys, since I posted about the Snypers I have switched to Montec G5 and have shot a doe and had complete pass-thru and good blood trail. My daughter took a nice buck opening day this year and she put me on to the G5's. They fly as true as my practice tips. This is the head that I will use from now on. They also sharpen up pretty good with the Montec stone.

i don't see how people can say it's the broadhead's fault for no pass, poor blood trail etc. i've shot and killed deer with mechanicals the first two years,(rocky mountain warheads) 5 clean pass thru's and one that fell out 10 yards after, i didn't switch because i didn't like there performance, they were awesome, i watched all 6 deer die within sight. on the shot that wasn't a pass thru I HIT THE SHOULDER, thats why no pass thru, poor shot placement. there aren't any BH's out that i know of that are made to pass thru the shoulder. now i shoot boss sst. again think about the shot placement and the path it'll travel thru the deer

Congrats on your buck! I used a snyper 2-blade Thursday night and I got an 8-point and a doe. Both shots on the deer were a complete pass thru and the blades were intact. Cleaned them up and they look brand new. What a night!!

Again congrats!
