View Full Version : Why Are "MUZZY'S" So Popular?

I just went to MUCC's website and noticed their "Broadhead Test Results". They tested both mechanical and fixed blade heads with Muzzy being among the selected heads.

I compared the results and they didn't perform as well as some of the other heads regarding accuracy and durability.

About the only thing it did well in was penetration. I put much more of a premium on accuracy. It looks to me like these heads just don't plane very well.

Not trying to bash this product, just want to see why they are so popular considering all the other quality choices.

I just hear of soooo many guys who shoot these heads and they seem so proud of it. Is it because they are local?

how does one test a broad head..... a uniform test is impossable you have to test them yourself with your bow your arrow and your shooting style but i have found muzzys to work just fine along with thunder heads but it just depends what your after...as long as there sharp and u can hit where ya aim thats all that matters

i use the muzzy 4 blades and love them, wouldn`t use anything else, i`ve used mechanical heads in the past and i don`t like the lack of penetration they have, and for accuracy they are just as accurate, if they don`t hit the same place as your field points, then you need to learn how to tune your bow, thats my opinion.

So the shooting machine that they had shooting field tips dead nuts one after another was not tuned properly?

Not trying to split hairs here, but Muzzy isn't a local company.

I would normally agree with your statement but, I watched this show when it aired and it was a pretty impressive set-up they had to insure consistency from one test to the next. I would say their test was about as consistent as possible. They used a mechanical rig to take the human element out of the test.

As far as Muzzy's go I have used them in the past with good results. I think they are extremely durable, however until tests like this are done you really can't tell how good any one product is. I wish that the Michigan Out of Doors would have tested more brands. It was a pretty interesting show and the results are still on their website.

Because they work for me, thats for sure. It only takes one " not perfect shot" to love what that muzzy does to a shoulder blade. I have one arrow(carbon) that ive shot three deer with, just by changing the blades on my broadhead. Regardless of any test, they just seem to work good for me. The only thing i changed about my setup is i went to 5 " feathers instead of 3 " vanes. Why change something that works for ya. MUZZY BAD TO THE BONE SHOULD BE BAD THRU THE BONE:lol:

The reason Muzzy has such a following is because they perform and have been performing before many of the newer broadhead companies started to make a product. They fly just fine out of a properly tuned bow. I like that I can rebuild the broadhead after using it, new blades, new tip if needed and it's back to business.

Not to mention that once you got accuracy taken care of they have fixed blades never to seperate from the broadhead if inside the deer and an incredible tip that handles penetration even with bone impact. How can you beat the 3 blade 100 grain?

:yeahthat: In addition, the blades are easy to sharpen (not that others aren't) and I like the practice blades for back yard shooting. I've just had great experiences with them and have never had the desire to spend the $$$$$$ to try any other brand. Some of the other new designs are cool and expandables are getting better design wise ...... but, why?

Muzzys are popular because they are a good , proven broadhead . They may not fly perfect out of a fast setup or poorly tuned bow ,and may not be for everyone .
I had killed a bunch of deer with Muzzys , before making the switch to Slick Tricks . The Slick tricks fly better out of my faster setup . Yes, it is tuned .;)

I would have to agree with what many have said here about Muzzy broadheads!!!! They drive thru bone like a hot knife thru butter!!! If your blades are messed up, you just replace them and you're ready to go! They have practice blades so you don't dull your hunting blades while practicing and they fly with little tuning needed. In twenty years of bowhunting, I have never been let down by my Muzzy broadheads!!! Just my .02 cents!
