How sharp were the blades before the shots ? Blood trails may vary on game with the same broadheads and shot placement . I have seen it happen over the years . Sometimes it may take 30 yards for blood to start spraying out with a double lung . The next shot may look like a crime scene .
If the blades were sharp to begin with , and stayed intact , how can you blame the broadhead ?

well, the blades are so sharp my idea is that when slicing through it cuts so fast that the hole closes right up after it cuts..like a surgical wound with a scapal... what you guys think????

I think that unless the arrow leaves a low exit wound any broadhead regardless of how sharp will leave a poor blood trail. Remember, you've gotta wait for that entire chest cavity to fill up before it starts spilling blood. Which is why I always aim for the offside armpit.

:yeahthat: I always aim at the lower portion of the lungs, that way, like above, the blood doesn't take as long to pool up inside the cavity to actually leak out. Two years ago, I hit a buck in that position with a NAP spitfire and it left a highway of a blood trail, the buck crossed a creek 10 yrds from where I shot him and I could clearly follow the trail from point of impact and picked the trail back up from the other side of the creek with ease. A blind man could have followed that trail.

Gotta be scapel sharp...otherwise it dosent' cut the arteries very well...tends to push them aside rather than slice.

A good sharp blade cut will not close shut if placed in the lungs .The sharper the blade ,the less likely it will clot . Just like when you cut yourself shaving ,and it doesn't quit bleeding . Like Doc said , a low exit wound will spill blood quicker on a bloodtrail because the chest cavity has to fill up on high hits .
If the shot placement is good , blades sharp ,with a good cutting diameter , the blood trail will be good .
What bothers me is when a bowhunter will blame a broadhead for a poor bloodtrail . Blade sharpness and shot placement is key to a short bloodtrail .

A dull broadhead actually rips up more tissue than a sharp edge. The jagged cut lets the surface area bind together better than a smooth cut, also more tears let out more of the clotting properties in the blood.

Was out two nights ago, had a perfect 1/4 away shot that shot straight through the heart. The deer ran maybe 20 yard and dropped. I didn't have to do any tracking but it would have been easy, the blood trail looked like one of those road crew line stripers except with red paint! My Buddy was in the same tree just a little higher. We switched spots and he had a perfect broad side shot that entered a little high but exited perfect. He didn't have as much blood but his deer dropped 10 yards from mine. I think, and it's dangerous when I think, but the difference might have been his was a pass through shot and mine entered and came out about three inches in the front. Maybe because of the muscles flexing when running caused the opening to stay wide open????? Just a thought, I don't claim to be a know all, I'm just trying to figure out why mine looked like a spay and his was big puddles of blood.
Any input about the blood trail or anything else from those of you with more expierence would be greatly appreciated.
I wasn't sure if I wanted to try something new but now I'm glad I switch over! Just my personal expierence and HOPEFULLY, I'll have more feedback after Saturday. G5 all the way!

Many broadheads on the market do exactly that. I put 3 different heads into a refridgerator, and a typical head like muzzy and thunder leave a hole the size of an arrow with slits were the blades went through. Montec's cut on contact design opened a hole you could fit your thumb in. The results had me change. --Overdraw

Issac your dumb. look we talked about this at rips house, keep shooting those muzzy's and be happy. I watched Phenix (phensway) shoot what ever those mechaincal G5 heads are called and they didnt shoot good at all and i saw the hole on turtles deer up close and the blood trail was fine. I mean you couldnt take a bath in it but it was a steady trail. The only and i mean only product from G5 that i like are Montec's. But Buttco when it comes down to it your a muzzy boy. Me im a muzzy man.
P.S. i think ill be up to Ferris when deer huntings done, so like January.

I just started shooting Strikers this year and am quite happy with them. I shot a doe quatering away and a four point broadside. I didn't see much difference in the blood trail with the Striker compared to the Satellite Titan I used with my old bow. The Titan was a 4 blade and the Striker's are 3 blade. What I DO like about the Striker is that they fly quite well and are very accurate compared to many of the fixed blades I've tried.
