well all summer i have had no problem catchin gills, but with colder weather approaching and the changing of seasons, what can a guy do to increase his catch?? normally i fish from shore with a good ole worm and bobber, normally i fish the same spot (my honey hole) problem is in a hour or two i catch 8-10 gills during the summer in 1 hour i would limit out. i know i havent "fished it out" because im still catching them any tricks or tips to slay the gills?? all input is appreciated thanks again.....

I have caught almost 200 gill's in the last month. Most on bottom in 18 to 20 fow. All on crickets. All of them between 8 and 9 inches. With the weeds dying off it is pushing them out to deeper water. Now that the water is cooling down, on sunny days they will suspend over the same depths.

alleyes, my lil fishing hole is a tiny pond that is HEAVILY weeded, if i had to guess i'd say its about the diameter of a baseball infield, dont know where its deepest but im sure its shallow all the way around, think i should try crickets or wax worms??

I think smaller offerings are better too.....
Maybe try to get out a few ice jigs and tip them with small pieces of crawler or red worms

Wait a week the ice is on its way:lol: Try the deepest part of the pond, start at the bottom and move up in 12" incrimants until you find them.If you can't locate them move three feet shallower and so on. They still should be deep.

not familiar with ice fishing (plan to get into it this year) when you say ice fishing jig, i assume these are around at dick sporting goods and such, any special way to rig these? i have found using a small chunk of crawler is better than using a whole leaf worm. anyways if anyone has any insight i would appreciate it

You may not have fished it out. But my guess is you fished it down. That is a mighty small pond to be pulling limits out of and not hurt the population.Sure you are still catching fish, just not the numbers like before. I have seen it several times on waters much bigger than what you are fishing. That is why when I find Big Gills I keep it to myself and a very tight knit group of friends.;)
